Parts Availability

has anyone here had any difficulty getting OEM parts?

an example being the chevy SS, just real basic stuff is discontinued like
rear shocks and rear sway bar end links, body panels like fenders, bumper covers
and I’m sure all the small stupid stuff like window motors or trunk latches are discontinued too

used SS stuff is out there but i’ve seen prices upwards of $3000 for a complete front bumper, so expensive is an under statement

so we have any problems with that?
just the sheer number of 5th gens out there will hopefully be enough to never have these problems

Yeah There’s a ton of stuff discontinued for the 5th gens unfortunately. And more parts seemingly get added to that list everyday. We aren’t in exactly the same boat as the SS sedans in that there’s a lot of used stuff out there for now, but it won’t be like that forever.

This has been problem for a few years now. It's ridiculous. The list is pretty large from what I hear. The dealer has no answers for me. I have a 2014 and a convertible at that. The convertible has so many parts, if they don't stock some of them, I'm screwed. I'm glad the quality of these cars are better than 30 years ago but to have to worry about a part already discontinued is bull. I will be opening my blend door store soon.

i think being there were so many made we are still in decent shape, dont know how many convertibles were made in 2014/2015 but has to be a fair amount im sure they can be sourced for parts down the line

Funny...I was just contemplating this the other day. Interior trim pieces no longer available. And sure, go to a yard to see if they have one, but what shape is it in? and unfortunately for me, there are no wrecking yards with Camaros even close. There is at least a smattering of aftermarket parts, for major things like suspension and engines, but smaller stuff, forget it. and yeah Joe, the water bag is no longer available and if the top on ours breaks, were just SOL...

sounds like the only options these days are wrecking yards
just a shame that even these things with how many they built its still tough to get stuff

it was pretty easy and cheap to get parts for my 1966 pontiac tempest.in fact when i stripped the body for paint i realised she already was wearing GTO front fenders.i drove that car for 25 year, not sure my camaro will last that long with all the sensors and computers and crap like that.

Cars aren’t made it last a lifetime and more people tend change vehicles like underwear. So dealerships won’t produce parts for outdated vehicles. In 10yrs they’ll probably crush a ton of these cars. Bring back cash for clunkers. Force the idiots to jump in something new 🤣

If people take care of them, they will last a long time. Driving it like you stole it can be fun as hell, but just know the life of the car is being diminished. Of course, when GM parts die off, and the aftermarket doesn't fill that in, it becomes problematic. I did think ahead and buy new inner door sill covers because I saw how easy it was to scuff them with your feet. Put them in the back of the garage and one day if I need them, I'll have them. Bought a new alcantarra shift boot/knob and steering wheel for the ZL1 and stashed those away for another of those just in case situations. Can't buy everything new, but those higher wear, not so expensive parts may come in handy one day, and if I ever need them I got them. Or if not, I'm sure I can sell them.

There's a 2010 Camaro SS around here that has the paint peeling on the hood roof and trunk, see it around town all the time. The owner treats it like many non-car people folks treated their 69 Camaros years ago. An A to B car. A beater at this point. Not all Camaros are pampered and thought of as a special car. Here we to revere the Camaro. Out in the real world, there are some that just like the sporty coupe, and don't really care about the history or appreciate the inner workings of a work of art.
