Considering the LT1 is a very tight fit into the Alpha engine bay, and by it's very nature a DOHC is wider, it doesn't take much of a reach to see it's just not there.
Now could they change that? Sure..after all KarKraft did it in 69 for the Boss 429 by shaving shock towers, but that will result in a much more expensive car, assuming it's even possible with Alpha. |

I read its 450 lbs dry, which seems pretty light for a 6.2 DOHC. The 5.0 Coyote and LT1 weigh roughly the same.

If they could get the LS7, with a 4" stroke, to rev to 7,200 rpm, then an LTx with a 3.622 stroke should be able to rev to 7,500. The valve train would have to keep up, so no AFM.

The M159 topped out at 622 hp for at least one year. If MB can get 622 hp out of a 6.2 n/a V8, so can GM. The M159 wasn't FPC and revved to 8k rpm.

I kinda feel that GM powertrain is a premier group....IF THEY WANT TO DO A 6.2 N/A 7500 RPM motor they will..and I WILL be a buyer!!!!

If I can afford one, I will be next in line. I always wanted an LS6 car but never got one. I would love to see a hot LT1 under the hood of a Z/28.

What has me scratching my head about a special engine for the Z is how do they recoup the development/durability/testing costs?
Even a revised LT1 would be certified and emissions tested for one model? This will be a reasonably low volume ride. If they could use another engine from the vette it would help spread costs and hopefully have a price point where it will sell. Is the Twin Turbo 6 in the ATS dohc? Two more cyl and minus the turbos, may be close. Would be a cool selling point, and sweet at the track! |

If Ford can put the Voodoo in a $50k Mustang, GM better damn well be able to put a modified LT1 in the Z/28 for the same price. The Voodoo is a much more engineering intensive engine than a cam/head LT1 would be.
