Humming sound from rear wheels

I have a 2010 Camaro 2SS L99 auto. Around 3rd gear the engine drops in power and and deep low hum comes from the rear, mainly the right side. Is that a rear bearing issue or an engine issue? Any ideas?

That's the sound of AFM switching to 4 cylinders.

You can get a range AFM device that plugs into the obd port that disables it or you can have the car tuned to remove it

It can be tuned out with any hand tuning device, by a shop that does tunes, or with the Range device. Th last seems a poor choice based on all the trouble reports on the forum.

Also, if you use the paddles, one downshift is enough to disable AFM until the next time you shift to D or restart the car.

Yes a tune can disable the AFM on the vehicle. Now just a heads up even with disabling the AFM you can still run into the notorious lifter failure on this engine. So the proper way is a complete DOD delete kit and some people even combo it with a bigger cam at same time so you can get better performance and a better sound. Also I would suggest a tune over a range just so you get added performance also. Check out our site if you would like and contact me with any questions my name is Jake thanks. 313-561-5500

It works on my late build 2010. Also holding down the "+" paddle for several seconds resumes auto shifting in Sport mode. The latter was not documented in 2010 and doesn't work on earlier build 2010s. Mine was built in the last 2 weeks before switchover to 2011.

Go out and try both functions. Accelerate up to 3rd gear and then ease off the throttle. You will hear the transition to 4 cylinders. Step on it and you should hear the switch back to 8. Ease off and 4 cylinder returns. Now downshift. You should now have V8 power and rumble! Enjoy for a while. Then, hold "+" down for longer than a shift and immediately you will have the 4 cylinder drone back.
