ZL1 Lower Grill...
So I had a thought today and I wanted your guys feedback.
I plan on tracking my ZL1 in the next few months. I know for the past my V6 front bumper got pretty messed up from rock chips and such. The ZL1 does have a clear bra 3M protective coating applied over most of the front bumper and fascia parts. I know I can tape off the headlights so they don't get hazed over. I was thinking of buying another lower grill (#5 listed in the picture below). Seems the part number is #22894223 and it only cost around $110 from some online part sites. That way I can have a "track version" of the lower grill and swap for the "clean" version when I'm not at the track. I've have removed my front bumper off my 13' V6 a few times and it wasn't that hard. How easy or hard is the ZL1 front bumper removal? Any thought on this?

I replaced my lower grill and it is a PITA.
I do not think it worth the effort and wear & tear on the components. My suggestions would be the following: 1. Tape off the lower grill (do not tape it up). 2. Plastidip before track, then touch up after. 3. Road & track it as is, and just replace it when it gets too bad. 4. Fuggedaboudit.

ZL1 front clip is just as easy to remove as a V6 car. There may be a few more screws to remove on the lower valence where the belly pan attaches with the ZL1. Once the front clip is removed you can swap out the lower section easily. Don't be scared...lol.

I know this was asked a bit ago, but just so you know the fascias are pretty equally easy to take off (since I went from V6 fascia to ZL1)
Taking off the lower grille isn't too hard with the fascia off, and it might even be possible without taking off the fascia if I remember correctly. I would not buy a lower grille online if it is aftermarket, make sure you are getting OE if you decide to get a spare but as the others said I don't think it'd be worth about it and I'd do what the first reply says |
