VW cost more to maintain, but they last forever. Vw really stands behind their product. I just can't seem to let silver fox go.
I don't know where you get that idea from. The reliability of a Camaro is much better than a GTI, VW products are cheap IMHO. http://www.truedelta.com/Volkswagen-...eliability-279 this shows the reliability trends (user generated info) of a GTI, http://www.truedelta.com/Chevrolet-C...eliability-499 this is the same for a Camaro (unfortunately it doesn't show V8 vs V6- they are all lumped togther). Because you see the problems people have on this forum, you only see the Camaro problems and the grass is greener on the other side. I work roadside assistance and I would not own a VW product- cheap trim, interior falls apart and the engines tend to be problematic (esp Jettas).

Maybe you're thinking of VW in the 1980's, but in the 2000's they are POS's

Yeah no code or anything. Mine started out as a light tick that I initial thought was the injectors. Then it turned into a deeper tick/ air sound. So I took it to the dealer and they said I had an exhaust leak. Also had them change the oil and cut the filter open just in case but they didnt find anything. Picked it up after they blew $500 in the "exhaust leak" fix and it was still ticking. Was about halfway home and it started to knock.

You live in Tampa? I live in Lakeland. We are pretty close. How has your Camaro LT been holding up?

Sounds like my story completely

They diagnosed it $160 later

Top end knock and bottom end knock
$7000 for the rebuild
$11000 for new motor installed
On top of the $2000 I just spent on these chains which I shouldve never had to pay for

This car has literally 50 thousand miles on it
I shouldnt have had to worry about chains or a damn knock

Have them wave the labor and parts for the timing chain replacement. They miss diagnosed this issue. Be calm about it though. Cool heads prevail.

Are they dropping an ls3 in there for 11,000 or what? You can literally buy a used 2012 lfx for almost 12k. See what they offer you on a trade in towards a used camaro since they messed up.

I've been researching this issue quite in depth and I'm positive that on one of the other forums for vehicles using the V6 LLT someone had posted that there was an update to the "GM Customer Satisfaction Program" that extended the warranty on the timing chain to 10 years, 120k miles (193,000 kms).
I seem to only be finding the original that did not have the Camaro, but I have seen a copy that included the Camaro on it, perhaps we can work to confirm or locate this.

I hope I don't end up like you....140,000KM so far & no problems (knock on wood)
Been using synthetic oil from the 1st oil change in 2009 and using premium gas since day one

Guys this is so ridiculous

I cant believe i spent $2000 on a fix that shouldve been covered and I should not have a blown motor at 80k like wow
Unbelievable

I wish GM would actually do somethin but they keep giving me the run around
So unfair
Literally feel betrayed

Wonder if a bad install can cause this.
My motor does make a wierd almost electric sound that I never heard before
Could it be the oil pump?
I read somewhere that if the tensioner isnt soaked in oil that it doesnt have the right tension...not sure what to think or question to be honest

Been using synthetic oil from the 1st oil change in 2009 and using premium gas since day one
Mines been using full syn since day 1 as well and very early oil changes
Been using 87 octane though

It seems to be a common issue though so i dont believe synthethic has anything to do with it
I dont think gas does either but it may
I know the CTS keep coming in for chains

I don't think either oil or gas are the issue... From what I've seen all LLT camaros with the spun bearings have a build date between 9/2009 and 7/2010.

After my new motor my car gets Mobil1 Full Synthetic every 3000 miles and 91 Octance Ethanol Free Gas. She runs like a raped ape and purrs perfect at idle
