Coil Pack Relocation Question

It may be a dumb question but I’ll ask anyway. I want to make the engine bay as clean as possible and the coils are an eye sore. My question is - how far can the coils packs move w/o affecting spark/performance on a high HP build? I know I will need extensions and plug wires but can I move them 2’, 3’, 6’, etc?

Not a dumb question at all, I have wondered the same thing. My guess would be that moving them 3 to 4 feet away would have little impact on performance because the signal from the coil moves so fast through the wire it would not effect timing. Resistance in high performance wires is very low so the voltage drop would also be low and not interfere. Moving them to the trunk, well thats another story LOL.

I have moved mine. As long as you use quality wires you won't have a problem. I bought bulk Taylor wires, boots and terminals from Summit and made my own. Just make sure you have a set of crimpers that are designed for spark plug terminals. My wires are about 4ft. long.

I mounted mine on the frame rails right in front of the radiator. Bought a universal wire kit and custom made the wires to length... no issues here

Thank you for the info! You can quickly eat up a lot of length going around things. I’ll try to keep 3’ as my max length.

Can you see mine? If you look real close, you will see the wires going into the inner fender wells. Work done by Vengeance Racing.

The ohms per foot loss can be seen in tests conducted by granatelli I use their zero ohms. also many varied set ups for cleaning up the engine bay in the sticky thread from the Moreno motorsports old post up top of the engine section page.

Agreed with all post above. As long as you use a good wire kit you’ll be fine. I’m sure you could get 5’ before you run into issues but would try to stay within 2-4’ just to be sure. I moved mine on the frame rails 3 years ago and never have had any issues.
