Well… first time out to the strip with the blower

As the title says, I took my car to the track finally to see what she would do. I was somewhat happy but felt I could have done better if I had more time. I only got to make two passes. My first was a 12.20 @ 118 and my second was a 12.03 @ 119. It was an 80 degree day and I drove the car for two hours to get to the track and never let it cool down. It was on a week day after work so I got there late. I was running on the stock tires and my best 60ft was 2.00. I know I could have done better but I just did not have the time to stick around. I was not spinning the tires… problem was it was hooking so good my car was bogging. I only launched it at 1300rpms which almost felt like I was coming out of the hole at idle. I was playing safe because I thought I would spin the tire. I hope to get back on a cooler day and let it sit for a while before making a pass. I am also going to be picking up some Nitto 555r’s so I can launch even harder.

Here was my first run.

Here is my second (12.03) run.

Heat is a killer with a supercharged car. In cooler weather and good launch, your car will run low 11's.
Keep it up.

You don't want to leave any higher than about 1000-1100 rpm. With the steep first gear all you will do is spin the tires. You also need to cool the car down. Not only will you loose performance but without a trans cooler you will cook it.

I agree on the cool down. It was running very hot. I would have like to try and leave harder though. The track was so sticky that I could hardly turn them over when I was trying to do a burnout. When I would launch at the low rpms I was leaving at, the car would just fall on its face and bog after I left the line. It just seemed like I could have left harder. Who knows... maybe the tires would have spun. I would like to go back with some cooler weather, drag radials, and let the car sit and cool this time so I can atleast get into the 11's.

You can try and leave harder if you don't mind throwing a pass away. With the TVS blower on an L99 you can't leave any higher than 1000-1100. It goes for the whipple as well. Feel free to get some other opinions of owners that have made a few hundred passes with a pd blower on a 6l80 car.

What rwhp are you at? (I can't see sigs on my phone if its in there.) I'm right at 620rwhp and our first time out was similar. My best run was 11.80 @ 120.5 on stock tires with a 1.93 60'. It was well over a 100* but it felt like there was a lot more that I should have gotten out of it.

What pressure were you running the tires? I think I was at 26 psi but its been a while. :(

What do you mean by throwing a pass away? I would just assume if the tires are hooking at the current rpm and the car is bogging that you would want to try and up the rpm's a little bit.

My car made 547rwhp. I ran on the stock tires with them at 22psi. My best 60ft was 2.00.

you weren't making that much HP if it was hot. In a nutshell, a hot engine beat on will result in timing pulled more than likely. Also, a roots blower makes heat...and if its hot, well...it's even hotter. Hot tranny makes for bad clutch wear.
I always give it 20min between runs.

Well... I probably had a 20 min break from the time I checked in and had my car inspected, but regardless I understand what you are saying. It was not an optimal day to run the best the car has for many reasons. It was just the first chance for me to get it out and have some fun. heck... I even had two child seats in the car on those passes. That had to be slowing me down. My boys enjoyed seeing their dad go down the track regardless how I ran. For now I will wait for some cooler weather and see what she does in fall.
