Does the 2012 LS3 utilize a different tranny?

Nope, just carbon syncros. The 12 is supposed to be better.

I don't think so. Still the 6060 iirc

The guys busting trannys are driving the cars pretty hard at the track.

Most dd cars are holding up just fine. I'm pushing 550 to the wheels and haven't had a single problem

Mine grinds a tiny bit but it's operator error. It only occurs if I try to shift way too fast and rip the shifter into the back seat!

You need a long throw shifter to help with that. Lmao

Agreed that the busted trannies are the ones driven hard, but think twice if you dont want to have to shift very slowly while the engine is cold. Im still getting grinding on 1-2 shifts, even after getting new synchros. I know the grind is much more common for those with short throw shifters.

Well,.... I just did something very similar myself. After having many problems with the top on my new 2011 2SS/RS vert L99, I traded it in and ordered a new 2012 2SS/RS coupe LS3, with sunroof. My vert only had appx 1700 miles and was in great shape,... other than all the top issues. We took an appx $4,000 loss but then subtract the sales tax from trading in the vert and we saved appx $1,500. So in the end we lost appx $2500 on the trade, but since we ordered the coupe the dealer sold us our new coupe at appx $1300 under MSRP. It was the best way we could get a good deal and the dealer still be happy and make some $$$ on the deal as well. The savings from the sales tax will really help considerably on trading. In all honesty,... if you have a dealer really willing to deal with you,... your not gonna be much worse off by trading instead of waiting and trying to sell your car yourself when you figure in the savings from the tax savings.

You won't take a hit on taxes even if you sell private party--at least in MO. You get credit for the amount sold towards your next purchase. If you have to have an M6 then by all means do it if you can afford it. I struggled with this after purchasing my L99 but soon got over it after reading about all of the M6 tranny problems. Not to mention the $2-4K difference put in the L99 will get you one heck of a fast ride if you keep what you have. I've had sticks most of my life--some of those being fast rides. Sure, I miss the 1-2 tranny scratches and fishtails that are easy to pop around corners but drinking my coffee while laying into the auto does help make up for it. The only other aspect I miss the growl of the engine when engaging the clutch as giving it a little gas while coasting in neutral. Check out the transmission section and do a bit of reading on the M6. There's a reason why the "1-2 grinding" thread is one of the longest on this forum. No disrespect to the M6 guys but I'd be fed up to all get-out if my new Camaro was grinding and in and out of the shop on a regular basis trying to fix it. Who has the time for that with a new car?
