Wheels size for Track Day

What is the best Wheels size for Track Day for Camaro 5th Gen?

19'? 20'?

Forget about the tires specification for now. I am wondering about Wheels size.

I already have 22' wheel in my Camaro. Should I noticed a big difference in track time reducing to 20' ? Or better to spend money in good tires for 22' ?

Thank you.

There's a variety, really. Don't know about a best. I'd say depends a lot on car setup, and your situation. That said, I've heard of various 18's. 19's are obviously stock on z/28, so that says something. 20 is popular in general, but obviously harder to get as light as 18 or 19.

Get rid of those 22's!!!!! You're ruining your ride and track quality! These cars are NOT supposed to have 22's on them! I would go back to the 20's, or even some light weight 19's you can get from APEX Wheels.. If you're serious about track operation. Look through here for tire and wheel specs.

Also, this company offers great but expensive light weight wheels for our Camaros.

Yea.. I am aware of those 22's are TERRIBLE for track.
When I bought my Camaro it came with 22's.

I already did two track days with those 22's.

I know I must change the wheels to do fast laps.

My friend is selling his 20's wheels really cheap.

It will not make a huge diferrence right ?? from 19's to 20's.

I guess I will buy his 20's wheels and buy some semi-slick tires.
I personally also love his wheels.. So beautifull.

I am thinking about =

Front = Tire Atturo AZ850 Drag Radial 285/35R20 104 Y XL
Back = Tire Atturo AZ850 Drag Radial 315/35R20 110 Y XL

https://atturo.com/product/az-850-dr

So can I go for 20's ?? I will be fine with that tires I guess.

The best will always be the lightest that can fit over your brakes, less unsprung weight means faster times.
I wouldnt be using drag radials on a trackday either, cant imagine they would last very long .........

I'm assuming roadracing type of track days so 19" or even 18". Go with a 30 aspect ratio instead of 35s. No drag radials, way too much sidewall flex. If you're just starting out, Toyo 888s or Nito 01s are a good choice.

Once again I thank you guys in this forum for all the tips.

You guys opened my eyes when it comes to tires type "slick, Drag Radial"

I was pretty sure I was going to buy Atturo AZ850 Drag Radial tires for track day use.

But after the comment of docwra, I started researching and you said that for track days, this really isn't the best tire.

Also for me in Brazil is SO expensive.

And I can't find slick tires in 20's which should be EVEN expensive.

I'm not rich "yet" so I better take it slow.

Better to invest in the car's handling and stability for now.

Yes, I will buy the 20's wheels, but I will buy cheap tires to use on track day.

You can definitely have fun with radial tires in a track day.

My laps probably won't be the quickest, but what matters is having fun.

Thank you again.

Buying cheap tires for track days depending how serious you are may not be the best idea. If you are serious about track days at least buy a decent street/Track tire or you can always get two sets of rims for street/track.

I decided to go with 20's.

I know 19's and 18's can have a better performance but asthetically 20's are more beautifull. But now is really hard to find in Brazil slick tires for 20's

I may found semi slicks. "may"

I guess I will try Radial tires but the ones from good performance
Any advice for good Radial tires for track ? not much expensive

Thank you.

How WIDE are the rims you are getting? My suggestion would be to stick to sizes close to factory original if using stock rims. I've had very good luck with Toyo tires on track.

I'd run a 285-35-20 square if they are factory size rims, I am not sure what tires cost over there but, Oilot sports are always a solid track/ street tire.

If I am not wrong = 20x10/11 5x120

Rims Wide = 11'

For tires I just bought today =

285/35R20 Front
315/35R20 Back

https://www.pneustore.com.br/categor...-104y-16004477

https://www.pneustore.com.br/categor...0y-xl-16002464

Those are not performance tires.
I will buy later performance tires for track day only.

What is the benifit using 285-35-20 square?

My rims are the same as this one =

Those are nice rims, square typically gives you a more stable handling, helps with under/over steering. That's a nice street combo size you picked but not ideal for track.
