6spd launch help

I’m curious what you 6 speed guys are 60 footing and on what size rim and tire. I have a stock clutch,600hp, 3.91’s, trailing and toe rods, lpw cover, axels, and a pinion mod. The best sixty I’ve had has been a 2.05 on a 20 inch wheel with a Mickey street comp tire. What can I do to get the sixty down? New clutch?

I'm not a drag racer but why are you using a 20" wheel? You need more grip, more flex, more sidewall in the tire. Go down to a 15" if you can, or anything in between that and the 20, you should see some improvement. What size tire are you running on the 20?

What about the clutch makes you think it's slipping too much? If it's slipping too much when fully engaged then yeah, time for a new / upgraded clutch.

I’m not being a smart ass honestly. But no matter what you read here I’ll tell you what we’re doing...the best we can.

Get your RWHP and torque dialed in, get a new clutch, sticky tires and all the other goodies and try and be consistent.

Then just follow those ten speed automatics right on down the road...cause buddy, nowadays..manual transmissions are just for fun.

Your absolutely right. I have a small tire chassis car also. This is just that my fun street car. I’d Like to get in the 1.8x’s with the 6 speed and keep the rear brembos.

It’s a 305. The clutch is not slipping but it’s either in or out. Meaning it does not come together smooth like a twin disk clutch.

I will say that should make big difference. I have a Monster LT1SC I love it, I’d bet that clutch will help you off the line. IF YOU GET IT, MAKE SURE YOU BREAK IT IN CORRECTLY.

Try moving towards a 17 or 18" drag rim (Weld) or C5 Z06 18" rear rim. Same bolt pattern as Gen5 Camaro. May need a wheel spacer on the C5.Z rim. Switch to a true track Drag Radial. M/T Street R.

Slip the clutch at 4500-5000 rpm. Work you way up to that. ie (1000-1500, then 2000-2500, etc). Make sure you do a good 2nd gear burn out before staging.

You should able to get 1.7 - 1.8 sixty foot at 600 rwhp. Just make passes and practice and have fun with it. You can still Win races in a Manual in these heavy Pigs.

My mods are in my signature. I run 26" tall drag tires on 17" wheels. 275/40/17 M/T Street R in the rear and 26X4/17 M/T ET fronts.

I regularly run 1.7x 60' times and have a few passes in the 1.6x range.

I launch at 5,600 RPMs and try to slip the clutch as opposed to dumping it.

For what it’s worth, pound for pound we do very well from the roll.

Are you preloading drivetrain? When I was 6speed car I would light first bulb then hold e-brake up and bump into the 2nd bulb. Then you slip clutch and ebrake at the same time.

Bingo - preloading the driveline with the e-brake is essential to keeping these things alive. When you take out all the slack you really drop the dynamic load on everything when you release that clutch.

OP needs a better tire to have much hope of hooking up 600whp, it just depends on how committed you are. I have some 18x11 ZL1 Replica's with NT05Rs for sale.. been consistent 1.73's dead hooking. They'll go more, they're just too tall for my all motor car.

You definitely need lots of RPM and a clutch slip with a stick car. I leave between 5500 and 6000rpm, with a quick but not instant release. Helps keep her nose up the first 30'.
