Oil Change Hassle
I assume we all do the same thing: You can only buy 5 quart jugs of oil, so we buy 2 then measure out 2 quarts to use in lawn mowers and pressure washers (or just throw it a way). Buying 3 individual quarts costs way more than the 5 quart jug and single quarts aren't always available. WTF don't they sell 1 gallon (4 quart) jugs of 5w-30 so we can just buy 2 and be done with it? They sell 1 gallon jugs of the oil for my Duramax, but it takes 10 quarts! So, I have to buy 3 of those and still throw 2 extra quarts away!

It don’t come easy.

Sounds absurd that you would “throw away” what you don’t use. Put it on a shelf and use it where you can.
Also an Amsoil user. 2 gallon jugs and Im all set.

I buy 2 5qt jugs of mobil 1 and after all the old oil is drained I pour about 1.5qts of clean stuff through before putting the plug back in so it grabs any gunk on the way down and out

THIS! It's not wine or soda pop. It doesn't go bad once you open it. However, I am anal enough that I always put a "purchase date" on the jug or bottle so I use my older stock first.

I use the old oil first then add the new. It doesn’t go bad sitting in the jug.

Personally I don’t see much of a benefit to doing it. It drains out pretty much all of the oil and also any sediment when it’s pouring out with it. If you really wanted to do more I would just fill it up with a cheap filter and oil and drive it for a little bit then do an oil change with the good oil. But as long as you change the oil regularly I don’t see a need for any of this. I know everyone here usually changed their cars oil before they even have too. I do like every 1,000 miles but it’s not a daily. And the oil that comes out is barely darker than the stuff I put in.

Remember conventional oil(non synthetic) in oil cans and changing every 3k miles. If you threw oil away, dad or granddad would beat your ass!
Current worst oil was yesteryears best oil choice. The times have changed for the best. Key point: just change your oil frequently and all will be good. |
