WOOHOO!!!

Thanks for the informative thread. I used the tips from the OP and attended a Car Show this weekend that benefited the Wounded Warrior Project. Although after clay barring a good 80-90% of the swirl marks were gone (?), so no polishing.

And I won Best of Show Domestic 2 Door! Of the other cars in my class I was sure the '06 Z06 was going to win, it was very clean and more mods than me.

Thanks again OP!

So I'm TDY for two week and took my car to a local wash rack. The brush was worn and scratches the hell of my hood and rivers fender. This really pisses me off since I don't have access to my stuff. Just venting.

You may have been removing oils from the paint surface that appeared to make the swirls look worse.

If anything, claybarring sometimes adds some scratches swirls (if done incorrectly). I always polish after a clay session. I only polish once a year, so I generally only clay once as well.

Wash - Dry - Clay - Wash - Dry - Heavy/Medium Polish - Spray Detailer - Glaze - Spray Detailer - Sealant - Wait 1 Day - Wash - Spray Detailer - Dry - Sealant

Phew. That's what I do once a year. Worth the effort every time.

Here's a couple of wheel washing tips I've discovered over the years. The "fluffed up" paint brush is also good for grill work and applying things like Armour All to the dash/AC vents, etc.

Amazing what a detailing of waxing and washing. Waxing and washing at frequent bases are a must to protect the painted body parts.

There are other ways to get a washed car. I like when my car is clean, but I really suffer by washing it. So I found a tasker who does it for me once a month at https://fee4bee.com/services/cleanin...es/car-washing. And I'm happy )

Can you recommend a polishing compound for minor scratches? I recently wanted to clean my car after the rain and didn't realize there might be fine sand particles. Now I've got this issue.

Good info! I have some bimmer friends and they all swear by Zaino so I've been using it for awhile too. Good stuff in my opinion.
