The results of this question on age are most interesting. The responses are as diverse as they can be from the late teens into the seventies. This is really cool.

I've attended the Bondurant Racing School in Chandler AZ but there are many other great schools offering 1 to 5 day courses. Most will offer skid-control, accident avoidance, emergency stopping and turning as part of their 1-day classes. From there you can add autocross, road course, and advanced courses. Look into it...

Another avenue to keep your shiny new ZL1 out of the ditches... is early season autocross. Many clubs have one day free training sessions to hook newcomers. Some do skid pad, threshold braking, slalom runs, etc... all with instructors. Even if you are not interested in autocross, this approach can be an economical way to get a feel for the limits of your car, without the danger.

Absolutely right! SCCA clubs host autocross weekends all over the US. They're starting as soon as the weather clears. Bookmark MotorsportsReg to check for events near you. Their search tool lets you plug in your zip code and check boxes for your preferred motor sports. It also lets you specify how many miles from home you want to look. Fees are usually $20 - $40 for "novice" training day.

I did a little write-up on them in another thread - should have put it in the general Camaro discussion, though. Autocross - An alternative to Drag Racing

Amazing that 25 year olds can buy a $60,000 car. I was still in school at that age driving an old beat to crap Oldsmobile with no reverse.

I was reading an article not too long ago where this one guy got arrested. He was 19 years old, pulled over driving a 2016 Porsche. I know I couldn't afford a new Porsche when I was 19.

LOL. At 19 I would dig around my dorm room looking for enough change to get a hamburger at the student center.

Right after I turned 18, I went from making $5/hr to $8/hr. I thought I was living the golden life, haha.

I know a guy that got a C6 ZR1 when he was 19 and proceeded to build it to 740 RWHP. He's a bad ass driver, runs 9.8s I think. Also know a 16 year old that his Dad let drive a 5th gen ZL1 drive to some local car meets. And a 16 year old that has a 11 GT500 with 550 WHP. Oh and another guy who's dad bought him a ZR1 and a GTR, but he was from big money and used to race go-karts from 10 years old up to 18, at one point he was offered a spot in some racing series that was pretty big, he's 24 now.

Another self employed kid I know has a Lamborghini Gallardo, C7 Stingray, and a Liberty walk Hellcat and he's only 20 years old, paid with it all by himself. He started several high end car detailing centers.

I was like one of those kids, and the general assumption is that 1) dad bought it or 2) they will crash it. Most cases this is true, but in some cases, like the ones I just mentioned above, it's not true.

Give everyone a chance

That said, I'd like to be several lanes away from most people driving an above listed car that are younger than 21. lol

My hat is off to any guy that has the means on his own, through legitimate employment to afford a high end performance car, absolutely. Quite honestly it has worked well for me climbing the economic ladder over time while my cars got faster and more expensive. Hard to fully appreciate 650 HP if you haven't struggled with 200. What does the 19 yr old with the Gallardo do when he is 30 buy an FA-18 fighter jet? The 20 year olds driving A8s and Bentleys are in most cases going to be involved in illegal businesses and just about everyone with a double digit IQ knows this. Most of this crew will be in jail or dead in 10 years.

I was 24 when I bought my 5th Gen and I'm hoping to have my 6th Gen before my 30th birthday in Nov. Not getting rid of my 5th though....I just can't part with it. It's the first new car I ever bought.
