This has been going on for years.
I see dumb asses put cutouts up front on new vehicles, and little do they know that the knock sensors are picking this up and decreasing timing. = HP This is why we used to put the cutout in the rear before the muffler on the F-Bodies. DW |

I must be a dumb ass I have noweeds cutouts right after headers. I had tunnel brace bounce but have fixed it now but I didnt know that the cutouts would cause issue. So it does good on the dyno but once you hit the streets your loosing power. Would be nice for some performance shops to chyme in on this thread!

Like could this be costing me 2 to 3 tenths at 60 feet and almost a second in the 1/8 Mile?

Maybe this is the reason peeps with cutouts feel like the car is slower on the street with them on; when the dyno says other wise?

Will knock retard/timing pull show up on any guages other than directly plugging into ecm?

HA!
Man, that was one thing that pissed me off more than anything else!!! That damn tunnel brace! I have an extra set of chambered mufflers. I have switched them out a couple times in the past and most recently put them back on for the road track out in San Marcos (don't want to piss off the neighbors next to the track with the louder mufflers). I now have the 2 1/2" mufflers back on....but...all that back and forth and my pipes started to sag. They weren't in the same place that Stainless put them in a year ago. So...here comes the rattle. Well, my dumbass says, "I can fix this myself." I screwed with if for a good 30 minutes finally getting it where I wanted it. Took it for a drive ..... RATTLE....sh!t.... I repositioned everything after using a floor jack to help hold the pipes where I wanted them. well, that did the trick. ...till the next time I switched them out.... and then i almost bought that $99 tunnel brace when I saw someone post about the washers. Ok, I thought...I'll give it a shot. Home Depot, bought washers (3 for each), ran home and put them on, and BAM!!! I have TONS of space! I wonder if the occasional knock was causing issues on my car?? Nice numbers btw. One of these days... |

Its hillarious but I remember talking to this one shop in Charlotte, and they wanted to fit their 3" behemoth of a V8 exhaust onto my V6. And I was just imaging the fitting issues I would have when they were pushing that to me, lol. Needless to say, I went did my own research and didn't put it on because I wanted the right sized exhaust.
But as I stated before, I had that issue for a day with my 2.5" pipes. But I knew about the knock sensors thing, because my cousin was talking about it once. Funny how much I learn from that guy.

I couldn't tell ya, but mine was pulling almost 18 degrees of timing. you can definitely feel the difference.
