Spare tire for 5th gen camaro SS

So after buying my SS I was a little shocked to hear that GM did away with the spare tires on them. A guy in my local club told me that they just come with a little air compressor and this goop type stuff. WTH GM!! Anyways I do a lot of long distance driving in a desert area for work and getting stranded from a flat is not an option for me. Considered AAA, but then again I don't want to wait a couple hours for them in the heat.

I found a rather slick set up from a company online who manufacturers spare tire kits for our cars. I spoke to them today and they say the whole kit will fit in the spare tire well. Looks like you can also buy it with a carrying case. I was concerned about the wheel fitting over the Brembo's but they assured me that it has plenty of clearance for it.

Has anybody bought this? Thoughts?

I wish I could post a link to their site and the price but I'm not sure if they are a supporting vendor so rather here's a bit of copy and pasted info.

im guessing that the foam piece that holds the air pump and goop package is deleted to make room for the tire? if you could PM me with the details on this i would probably buy one for my 2015 RS.it is crazy not to carry a spare and jack...

This is actually a different company from Performance Spare but it's the same price as those guys. What stopped me from buying the performance spare kit is that it raises the spare tire well deck lid 2.5 inches. These guys say that their kit has less that .5 inch deck lid lift. Modern Spare also says that their wheel will fit over the brakes with no spacers. Plus the aluminum wheel is way cooler!!

Yup, that foam piece just slides right out. Definitely worth the $300 for the spare. I'll get you a PM sent in a couple minutes.

There is a large rectangular OEM plastic battery cover that goes on before the spare tire is loaded in; as an insulator and protector between the wheel and entire battery (not sure if needed with open wheel design above).
Cover is shown in pic installed over battery below, the tire is slid over to expose. Diagram part#6 Upper Cover > 22968661
(I use the factory spare tire kit kept when I traded in last Camaro and wheel adapter to clear the Brembo rollerskates). Have seen new jack for $35 or cheaper used off ebay.
OP, be good to double-check that they guarantee the fancy spare wheel will indeed fit over the Brembo caliper/pads that have the big roller skates sticking way up on the front calipers - it takes a big wheel to clear those.

Glad I wasn't the only one sweating over this. Though the first time I had a flat, that little air compressor did nothing but blow the fuse to the aux port on the car, so I threw the thing away and invested in a couple of cans of Fix a flat. Good to know a kit like this exists!

VERY GOOD point. Just sent them an email about it and I will update my post when I receive a reply.

However, my car doesn't have the "roller skates" on it as I don't have the factory brake pads anymore so I didn't really think of it. I wonder how many people actually have the "roller skates" on their car still though? It seems that most aftermarket brake pads don't have them. I don't see why anybody would want them

Yeah some people think I'm crazy for worrying about it. I've had to change a few flats over the years and I would have been SOL without a spare. Maybe I never will get a flat but having the peace of mind is worth it to me.

Yeah it looks like they sell a kit specifically for the ZL1.

Are you sure that the spare isn't for a V6 camaro? Everything I've read on the forums said that GM has never made a spare for the SS. However, they did offer it for the V6 models without the Brembo's.
