As far as I know, there are 1/4 mile as well as 1/8 mile events...
For a couple of years now, the Pros (Nitro fueled cars) are timed over 1,000 feet, as opposed to 1320 ft. This was done to reduce the top speeds, as well as allow for a few extra feet for shutdown/slowdown. I could be wrong on one or more of the above however... I haven't been to a National Event for about 5 years.

As far as I know, if you're not a pro, you'd compete in either a 1/4 or 1/8th mile race. I've never seen them mix them, so any single event will most likely be either 1/4 or 1/8th.
