2010 Camaro SS vs 2008 BMW M5

I remember reading a couple of posts a while back about people speculating what would happen if a 5th Gen lined up against an M5. Most people seemed to agree that the M5 would smoke the Camaro. Well, my buddy recently bought an M5 and we decided to line them up, on a back road in Mexico, of course. Did a roll race, from 20-100. I have a video but I've yet to upload it so once I do I will post the link. Anyway I jumped about half a car length in front of him within the first few second in 1st gear and pulled slightly more in 2nd, then we evened out around 60mph, then he started to very slowly catch up. At 100mph, we were door to door and and I let off as it was obvious his 500+ hp were going to continue to slowly pull him ahead. It was a very close and the cars were practically even.

His car is a 2008 BMW M5, only mod is a muffler delete

My car is a 2010 Camaro SS with high flow cats, GM performance Z/28 CAI, and muffler delete.
Neither of us are tuned either.

I attached a picture of the cars next to each other

Nice. My Dad had a M6 with the v10 before i bought my camaro and i love it. Awesome cars and they just keep pulling past 100. I did 175 in it with ease.

That V10 Sounds amazing, especially with a muffler delete.

Would never own one tho. Expensive upkeep plus their rod bearings are known to fail and throttle body actuators commonly go bad.

Still enjoy seeing (and hearing) them on the road.

It is funny because when I bought my car I had almost bought a light blue 2007 M5, but decided on the Camaro after realizing I would go broke trying to maintain the M5. That bearing failure is just too frequent of a failure point. Add to that the inevitable Vanos issues and the fact that it had an SMG trans. I dodged a bullet for sure, especially since my SS has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned.

They are an amazing engine though and sound godly, no doubt. Just way too high maintenance for me.

My buddy has an m5 2002 or something. 600whp 180k miles. Other than blowing transmissions it's been good. Fun car.

Haha yeah they are definitely expensive to own. My friend bought it for kind of cheap and immediately took the engine apart and changed those bearings, took him about a month but it's running good now. He got the oil tested recently with Blackstone labs and the tests came back good. Him and I go back and forth at work all the time talking trash to each other about chevy vs bmw, it's a lot of fun. I was happy to see how well the camaro did against the once $85,000 M5. I still havent had time to figure out how to process and upload the video but I promise I will by tomorrow. But yeah it was a lot of fun putting the 2 cars against each other and ended up being a pretty even race.

To me if it's not a Camaro, in most cases, it's just transportation. I'm still getting
looks and compliments on my 10+ year old SS. Try that with an old 4 door BMW.

Yeah man, those new Corvettes are no joke. So many improvements were made over the C7 it is crazy and they just have endless grip. I just can't get over the price they are selling for either. It is an enormous amount of tech for what you pay for.

I want one too.
