CURB RASH!! grrr...

Well, I gouged up one of my rear rims... F%$#!!!!! Someone cut me off coming to a light... guess 3 sets of signs and paint on the road wasn't enough to help this idiot figure out where he was going. He was in the right turn only lane as we approached a green light... I stay in the straight lane and begin to accelerate up to the speed limit to go past him when all of a sudden WTF! I see him start to come over and one flash from his turn signal. He's half way over and the light turns yellow so he slams on the brakes. I yank the wheel to the right and get in the right turn lane (I could have gone either direction my work is on the opposite corner). I pull up next to him, roll down the window, and give him "Are you F----n kidding me? Thanks alot, don't let me get in the way." Now the fun part, (well not really) I put on my signal and make my right turn not paying attention to how far up I am and KERRR THUNK!! my back tire slams into the curbing. OH CRAP!!! I get into the station and get to see my handy work pictured below.
I learned my lesson, I should have just followed the idiot across the street to where he parked in the bus station, called for a unit to meet me, and given him a ticket for improper lane change, but no I gotta let my frustration out and try go on about my merry way. Either that or I should have just let it go...

My question is..... SHOULD I GET A NEW WHEEL? I am pretty anal about my car and like my wife says I won't be happy until its fixed.
I have a bonus from my GM card ($500) sitting on my desk (that I was saving for a few nice mods for the car) that if I use it, the wheel will only cost me about $62 plus mounting. To get my wheel fixed was about $335.00 and to get one off ebay will run me $250.00 to $300.00 then I take my chances on its real condition if you know what I mean.

Can someone also please tell me why all these GM parts places charge a core charge of $50.00 for your old wheel? Its my wheel, I paid extra for the polished aluminum, why should I have to pay $50 extra to keep it?

Of course all this depends on if nothing else is wrong with the rear end of the car, then I may want to get my insurance involved. I am taking it to my buddy's shop tomorrow, after all this rain stops, so I can spin the wheel to make sure its not bent and put the car on the alignment rack since the hit made the ass of the car kick sideways.

I've gone to this chain of wheel repair shops:

http://www.awrswheelrepair.com

$150 bucks later you can't tell the rim was ever rashed. They come to your place of work, home, whatever you want.

Good luck.

I agree that a rim shop should be able to fix that for around $100 and you would never know it happened. Save your GM card for something a little bigger...

I can vouch for the awrs wheel repair network. They matched the midnight silver perfectly on the curbed wheel I got about a month after getting the car by attempting to navigate a taco bell drive through...

It cost $100 to repair and I learned a valuable lesson. Never go through a drive through in a car with low profile tires, a wide stance and poor curb visibility...

Guess, I need to keep looking around my area for a different wheel repair place. Trans Wheel was recommended to me and it was $306.00 plus shipping with a week turn around.

That guy sounds like a genuine a$$-hat.
And I hate that feeling when you're pissed about something and then you make a mistake in the heat of the moment. No worries, it happens to the best of us.

I have random question can I safely run 20X9 on the stock 245/45/20 up front? I'm replacing my wheels with GM Factory wheels in flat matte black.

MMMMM..... not sure on that one.... another member suggested that I sell my stock rims and buy replicas, the thought is I might be able to get as much for my OEM rims even with one having curb ras as the replicas cost new from tire rack.
To be honest, the polished wheels aren't what I expected.

Thanks, yeah I was pretty pissed, then pretty embarrased by the incident.

Ouch...

I have a healthy fear of curbs. I won't go near them. When I parallel park, I turn down the side mirror to see the curb! haha...

My gf last night curb checked her lexus at What-a-Burger... O__O

I cringed. I also have some beefy tires on mine so it's not as scary driving around town. Thanks for posting your pics guys... good luck with the repairs!

Question 245/45/20 tire=20X9 wheel??

Okay, well search around for wheels, there are lots of deals out there. You can buy real GM OEM wheels from westcoastcamaro.com for $2048/4 but it is refundable when you ship them your wheels. I found a nice set of flat black replicas on ************.com $199/wheel. Though they are not staggered sizing. All 4 are 20X9. which brough up my question, cause I just bought new tires and dont want to have buy new front ones to fit the 245/45/20, but I used 1010tires.com and used their tire calculater and the rim width allowed for a 245 tire is 7.5-9", so hopefully that is correct
