This is the perfect thread for me to read after my dealer told me at 120,000km (about 75,000 miles) and 7.5 years that I should change the original battery on my 2013 1LT coupe. I'm in Vancouver, Canada so not the worst winters, I store it inside in a parking garage and it never goes more than a week not being driven.

Sounds like batteries do eventually need to get replaced although mine has never let me down. As a wiser fella than me said up-thread, doesn't matter much if it's just me in the car if it fails, but if it's the lady too... and if her father sees... oh, just couldn't do it!

Thanks for all your stories and tips folks!

Optima makes good batteries. No gases involved, so no spillage.

This is the first car I’ve had with a drain tube on the battery. Because it’s technically in the cab in an enclosed area I guess.

All batteries installed in the trunk or passenger compartment need to be vented

https://www.optimabatteries.com/expe...optima-battery

Trunk/Interior Mounting- If your battery is mounted inside the passenger compartment, the battery must be vented to the outside of the vehicle. OPTIMA group DS46B24R, 27, 51, 78, 34C, 31 and H6 batteries all have ports for connecting a vent hose

Yes as there is no firewall in the back.

You would be surprised how many people on here have argued with me that they didn't have to put a vented battery in. I just told them why the hell did they put one in when they built the camaro then. It wasn't so the battery could take [Pee] and stay dry.

Ok almost all battery’s are made by two company’s Johnson control or exide.
So look up your preferred manufacturer and then look at the brands warranty’s versus cost and when that particular battery was manufactured.etc.
I prefer Johnson controls which happen to make Delphi, diehard and I think autozone plus many more.

Hope this info helps.

You’re correct!!!
I would definitely put in a vented battery if it’s in an enclosed area. These batteries put off hydrogen gas when charging. A small bomb in the making if there’s an ignition source!

Definately possible.
Could you imagine it exploding? It might blow the trunk lid open and fold down the back seats at the same time!

Just replaced mine this year, Toronto 2010 SS and mine did not die on me. I started getting random dic warnings which is always a hint your battery is starting to weaken.
