Dragrace with no A/C belt?

Hey all. I've had my A/C belt come off/shred etc...twice over the last couple of years. I only do bracket racing on Sundays from spring thru fall. Can I do without this belt? I'm not concerned with having A/C. Will having it off cause me any problems?

Thx

I'd pull the fuse so you don't accidentally turn it on. It may damage the compressor.

That's not the issue. Often, the belt gets thrown and wraps the balancer and damages the oil seal. That is a PITA to replace.

You won't have a water pump without the belt, unless you put in an electric one.
That's why it's called a serpentine belt, it drives all the accessories.

On the V8, the AC is it's own separate belt.

Hey Vegas. That's pretty much exactly what happened to me. When I went to go do something in the car, I noticed oil leaking onto the pavement. I opened the hood and my AC belt was gone. I took it in to the local service shop and they said when the belt "blew off/exploded etc..."a piece of the belt got wedged in between the crank and crank seal which damaged the seal causing the oil leak. The service shop is installing a new belt/seal as well as changing+refilling the oil as well as cleaning up the oil splatter around the motor. Labor cost was rough. The first time it happened a couple years ago, the belt was still on but shredded like a banana peel.

Being that it has happened twice and from doing research on the belt being an issue, that's what made me ask if I could dragrace without the belt since I'm not concerned about having AC.
