I've had them on several of my vehicles. They work. Nice sound too. The FIPK I put on my Silverado gave me a nice little performance boost.

Installed mine yesterday. Going to run a tank or two of gas and see if milage picks up. Engine sounds meaner.

Ok so what is the difference between the K&N filter and cold airintake ? K&N filter $57.00 cold air intake $400.00 plus...is there that much difference in HP and gas milage ?

Lots of difference between the cold air intake and just replacing the stock filter with a K & N.

K & N filters have better airflow and better filtering properties, so your fuel to air mixture will not see delays in air intake, making your fuel mixture overly rich (more gas than air initially for engine demands). This creates a rich fuel / air mixture. A lean fuel / air mixture is too much air to fuel. Your engine has been set up for a specific fuel / air mixture to get peak performance and stock air filters can slightly restrict the needed air at times and they tend to clog with contaminants much sooner than a K&N.
An excessively lean mixture will cause an engine to run hot and usually sputter. An excessively rich mixture will create carbon deposits on your spark plugs and in the engine cylinders, valves, etc. This will lead to poor mpg and lack of power.
A K&N allows good airflow under all conditions, so when you accelerate, there is not as much lag of air for the mixture as there would be with a standard filter. This is why it is claimed a K&N increases mpg. It is also why it is claimed to increase power - a constant good fuel/air mixture creates a good constant burn in the cylinders and lets your engine run at peak performance.
This is all talking about simply removing and replacing your stock filter with a K & N - good idea.

A cold air intake removes the air filter box that holds your stock filter and installs just the open air filter, so any restrictions in the stock system are removed and the filter is simply wide open under the hood, taking all the air it needs, whenever needed with absolutely no restrictions. The price pays for a replacement tube from the engine inlet to the open air filter and any mounting needed to secure the tube and filter under the hood. You will be completely removing the stock air filter assembly - but it is NOT a difficult task and will not have any adverse affects on your engine - only increased power and mpg. Warranty is not affected. Cold air intake great idea.

K & N is a JOKE. Their filter is overpriced and does not increase HP much more than a stock filter. I've had better luck with cheaper high performance filters you can buy from Autozone. I have run a couple vehicles on a dyno with a K&N vs cheap, and saw that the cheaper filters gave more gain. Basically you're paying for a name. I put together a short ram intake, virtually identical to a K&N setup for my truck, paid maybe $50 instead of $400 and got better results.

As far as CAI... used to be a cold air intake meant you were sucking air outside the engine bay... usually through the fender wall... Now it more of a box with a open filter... and your hoping the box holds the engine bay heat away from the filter....

I went to the track today... i did some data logging and was surprised how much the intake temps dropped once the car got moving! So it appears to me the stock air box is doing a pretty good job of grabbing fresh air from the front! I haven't really checked out it out... the stock box is sucking air from right behind the grill area.. just not sure what's all up there blocking things...

Here's the log... click to see full size.. then check the intake temp (light blue)... actually starts to drop once i hit about 20MPH...

I bought on a couple weeks ago, but I don't have a car yet. This was I needed on my 4th gen, and a new lid and wolaah. Only difference here, the new SS is missing the ram air.

i tried to buy one... figured while I had the car on the dyno what the heck.... called the local parts store.. guy tells me they don't have the 2010 Camaro in the system yet... then says, "Well, wouldn't it be the same as the 2009?"

Conical K&N and some Home Depot pvc piping. Saved $350. Booyah.
