Need help lowering oil pan
So I’m trying to get the dreaded bolt for the oil pump on the pickup tube. I unbolted all the oil pan bolts, the 2 going from the bellhousing, the plastic starter shields are off and I only have one bolt left on top for the oil cooler but the pan isn’t moving at all. Even tried tapping it. I can’t figure it out and it’s frustrating me. It’s just crazy to me it’s still being held on with nothing

Not sure about the SS, but the Z has a ton of crap mounted to the pan. It's possible the pan is just sticking to the gasket especially at the front. Both times i dropped the oil pan, I had the alternator out to get to the wiring tray attached to the pan. There were like 2 bolts that I missed because they were tucked above the wiring and lines. Like I said tho, it's a Z. Hopefully an SS guy will chime in here.

I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong or if Goliath built this car. I did unbolt the starter bolts and still nothing.

Best to count all the bolts you loosened to make sure you hit them all. The 2 on the bellhousing would make it 15 bolts.

I had all of mine loose and still needed to tap it slightly with a deadblow to dislodge it. Recently did the oil pump swap myself, wasnt that bad minus dropping the bolt in the pan lol
Highly recommend keeping rags in the pan, under the bolt until it is tightened down. I accidentally dropped mine in the pan but was able to fish it out with something like this: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Lisle-Mi...6540/207011197

I’ll have to revisit the AC lines and power lines then. I completely removed the oil cooler and thought that would be it. I do have a magnet just in case the bolt does drop. Hopefully I have better luck tomorrow

The factory put some rtv at all 4 corners of the pan . Chances are your gonna mangle the oil pan gasket so make sure you get a new one .
Also make sure you put that rtv back on all corners when installing the pan back . |
