I am sure statistically speaking, it is a very low percentage of failures.

But it is awful scary to hear about this, especially on a car with 20K miles.

Understood. Lots of stuff happens that are reported that fail like the timing chain tensioners, valves, valve springs and pistons but how common are they really. Out of the things you read about the tensioner gets the biggest hit. Ive had plenty of shops tell me about tensioners than anything else. Sometimes its luck of the draw on part failures though.

If the valves were not being hit square, I'd be replacing those valves and checking guides. I don't like using valves that have been hit off center a few million times. Especially if it's multi piece/hollow valve. Wouldn't hurt to check the guide for wear also.

Should be able to fish around in the pan for the rollers with a small reach magnet.

I was at summit this morning and asked a guy i know that works at the sales counter and it was news to him that they even offered them. They let you check stuff out at the pick up counter before you buy. Im going to check them out tomorrow as i was in a rush today.

Thanks for all the input! I was sold on sticking with the factory rockers till this happened. I ordered a C.H.E Trunnion kit yesterday along with two new intake rockers. Having the heads/valves looked at while the springs are being changed on Thursday.

The timing chain tensionner is the absolute words POS of all!! Mine was broken in hafl after 20k miles on stock internals! Dogbone upgrade is a must!

Thought i would post an update on this.

Ended up pulling the block completely out of the car to drop the pan and search for the needle bearings. Had to pull the transmission anyways since I was putting a Circle D converter in. Figured there wasn't much more to disconnect to get the block out, so why not.

While the block was out we pulled the pan and found 1 needle bearing. Removed the oil pick-up and found the remaining needle bearings sucked up against the pick-up screen. In case anyone needs to know, there are 33 needle bearings on each side of the rocker, 66 total. Put in a new pick-up tube, o-ring and pan gasket before putting the block back in. We also put the new cam in and front cover back on while the block was out.

Took the heads to GPI to get the new springs put on & the valves looked at. Aaron checked everything out and thankfully nothing was out of whack. Also swapped out my intake for one with a rod-mod while I was there.

Finally got everything back together and fired it up on Monday evening. Have been driving around on the start up tune since. Will be heading to see Ryan on Wednesday for dyno tuning. Can't wait to get that done!

I have heard a lot of great things about Ryan, Aaron & Josh at GPI and every bit of it is true. They are very busy but still take the time to interact with you, let you look around the shop and ask all the questions/advice as you want. Awesome group there.
