Exclamation suspension / rear noise

Alright, so within the last month I've noticed a really high pitched noise coming from what sounds like my rear suspension. it usually happens when I first start to accelerate and recently it was squeeking continuously sounded like it was bouncing for lack of a better word started at about 50 MPH. If anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate that.. I'm taking her on my first road trip this Friday so I want to know if i should be worried

if you hear a clunk sound when you start to accelerate it is probably a universal joint.

If you think there might be an issue I would suggest having the vehicle checked out to make sure it has a clean bill of health before going on that long trip. Hopefully it is something minor and you can get back on the road to enjoy your trip! Let us know how it goes if you do decide to take your vehicle in.

Like a bedspring squeak? If I'm reading it right you have it gear (drive) and pull away; it starts squeaking. Then it really picks up above 50?

Is it cyclic like you can count the squeaks as if they were a second hand on a clock? If so I think it could be brakes. Does it happen when you decelerate or brake? What about in turns? Braking in turns?

I'd find a hill and coast in neutral to see just what it could be. I know that's how I found out I have a failing rear U joint and pinion shaft/bearing.. pretty much my whole diff is f'ked.

Kind of a sporadic, high pitch, vibrato kind of squeak right? Right as you begin to accelerate, and sometimes upon decel/downshift? Loud enough for the car in the next lane to hear?

Sounds about right Revo.

When I'm in neutral theres nothing. when I am going 50ish its constant but low pitched, when I give it any throttle it gets louder though. usual not when I brake, however sometimes when I downshift.

That is a distinct possibility

Sounds like your fuel pump... From what I'm told, the pump assemblies sometimes rattle inside the tank. As far as I know, all you can do is change the pump and hope you get a good one :/

I had a problem with mine when I first bought it at about 45000 miles. It would be higher pitched the higher the speed and lower pitched when I slowed down. It sounds like really loud and obnoxious road noise. The dealership had fixed a pinion seal leak before I went and picked it up and the person who had done it had tightened it too tight. The rear differential had to be completely rebuilt and cost the dealership $1500 (because I had a 1000 mile warranty on the car and we had only driven it about ~200 miles since picking it up). The shop I took it too said if I had driven it probably 10 more miles it would have broken down on the side of the road so if this sounds like your problem then be careful.

edit: I'm pretty sure the noise was constant as soon as I began moving but this was about 4 years ago so it's hard to remember.

I’ve had a dry u-joint make the same noises before on my truck. I searched all over trying to find the noise, I kept checking the u-joints but couldn’t get any play out of them. I finally pulled the drive shaft and found that two caps had no grease in them, they were riding on dry needle bearings. That would be my guess if the noise is there when applying power from the engine.
