ZL1 Spoiler - Plastic retainers

I'm aware that during the removal of the ZL1 spoiler, there are a couple of plastic retainers which are really hard to access and apparently they break during the process. I guess some of you were able to access these and remove them properly without damaging them. But majority were saying these snap during the removal and then you either replace them with new ones, or you don't at all (use double sided tape instead, etc.)

I will be removing my spoiler for wrapping and want to be prepared in advance by obtaining a few of those plastic retainers.

Does anyone have a picture of what these bad boys exactly look like?

Thanks.

Any auto parts usually has a section of fasteners all size and shape that's were mine came from. I got a pack of 3 GM fasteners around $5-6, they also sell the tool that helps remove them

They will break and you'll need to replace them. Unfortunately, that's how it goes. Double sided tape is a cop-out. If you're going to do it, do it right.

There's also the 4 nuts to deal with.

I bought a few extras when I removed mine for painting, but I can't recall where they are at the moment. But the part numbers you need are 22761970 for the outer clips and the inner insert style ones are 11571150. You need 2 of each. They come with the little foam seals installed on them.

Here's the inner ones look like, 11571150

The 11571150 are #5 in the drawing below, and the 22761970 are #2.

el ess A has it correct. One thing to keep in mind, when you are taking the 4 nuts off, don't do it with the trunk deck up (vertical). Try to keep it near horizontal so if the nut falls out of the socket it doesn't fall in between the inner and outer sheet metal of the trunk deck. You will never get them out and they will rattle around while you drive. I remember seeing a few decent YouTube videos for the removal process, but nothing for the ZL1 spoiler with the plastic retainer clips.

This is good stuff. Thanks for the info guys. I have the '15 ZL1, meaning the spoiler is slightly different to the previous versions, i.e. brake light is not built in the wing. But im guessing the nuts and retainer setup would be similar?

Anyway, I will stock a few of those plastic clips before the project.

Thanks again.

Everything here is correct based on my experience. I'll add that I used a touch of clear silicon to reseal some of the interface areas that "could" leak.

When you get the wing off you'll see what I mean there.

Good luck!
