critique my intended mods
Thinking of the following on my LS3.
1. Barton shift handle kit, (not entire shifter) in order to run a white Hurst type ball. 2. G.M. (I get employee discount) axle back mufflers. I've read the LS3 mufflers aren't that restrictive and I'm buying sound not HP. Your opinion of the G.M. ? 3. Halltech CAI. Thanks. |

Just to give you a heads up. The Hurst ball or any ball for that matter will not fit our knob adapter for the stock shifter. In order to be able to use a ball with a 3/8-16 thread you would have to go to our short throw shifter.

i would not go with the gm mufflers only when you can get a complete magnaflow 16483 system for under $700 shipped from e-bay(complete stainless 3" with x-pipe and magnuflow polished mufflers and 4" polished tips), the guy just added another 10 systems, i dont know how he is selling them that cheap but i got mine for $665 shipped and it is in perfect condition shipped right from magnaflow with warranty and all.

1) Go with the complete shifter, shorter throws and better feel
2) No GM axle back. As camaro1 said you can get a complete cat back system for around $700. 3) Don't know too much about the Halltech CAI but they are all pretty close in performance, comes down to personnal preferance. |

I installed the GM Performance Track Pack (Offroad) mufflers on my Rosie. He sounds pretty darn nice with those babies on now.
Check my albums for photos of the install.

My .02
1. If you want to change your shift knob to a more "generic" white ball, you're gonna have to go with a complete shifter change. I don't know of any white ball shift knobs that will "press" onto the stock center shaft. I guess you could try to die the stock shaft but I think it will still be to thick to get a standard knob on it. Barton has great prices on shifters. 2. Even with your discount, you can get a really nice aftermarket catback cheaper than anything you can get from GMPP. I happen to be a Flowmaster guy, myself, but there are a boatload of options and sound files on this forum that you can pick from. TURN YOUR SPEAKERS UP! 3. I have a CAI intake and I love it! Looks great under the hood and it does perform. This is an area where you are gonna get dozens of different opinions from dozens of different people so it really does come down to preference. I will say though if you are gonna go down the intake/exhaust route, you really are gonna need a tune to get your money's worth, from a performance standpoint anyway! Hope this helps! |

The Barton shifter is great. Dave at Barton is great. Couldn't go wrong if you tried. Again, just my opinion!

I agree with the other folks.
I would go with the full barton and just about any CAI will do the trick (I prefer the Roto-Fab). But the exhaust.... I even sell cat-backs for less than the GM option. If you need to talk it out or have questions, feel free to PM me and I will help you as much as possible. |

So where is the Magnaflow exhaust link for $665? I just checked ebay and the lowest price I found was $845 for that same system? Can you forward the link? I have a friend that works at Magnaflow and I'm trying to get mine through him, but if for some reason I can't I'd love to get it for the same price you found it for.
thanks, Chris |

Magnaflow definatly would be cheaper. Magnaflow has a minimum advertised price policy that restricts what authorized dealers can show as a price in writing. There are some guys on ebay who skate around it. That being said, we we can compete with whatever is out there in terms of price..shoot us a PM, and we can save you $$.

I did the Barton, Halltech CAI, and MagnaFlow 2.5 Comp Axel back with MagnaFlow X-pipe. ******* is next on the list for me....and at 70, I think I've been under the car for the last time, excluding fluid changes, or I will need a different script from my Doc...LOL.....AZ5G

I would go w/ the Halltech as you won't need a tune if you do axle backs or catbacks.
I would do an axleback system just for the sound. I would not do a catback system as there is no horsepower gain on this car as many of the tuners have posted. You have to do headers if you want to see a gain and then I agree - you would need a tune to maximize your horsepower.
