416 ci stroker build
For anyone that has done one...can you give me a ballpark price on what it'll cost to take a 376 to a 416? And what upgrades I should make to the internals and drivetrain? Just kicking around the idea for next year...
Thanks!

I bought a 417 long block from FSP and then sold mine. That saved me about $1,000-$1,500 compared to having my motor built. I priced the forged internals at about $2k and then the work on the block at another $2k. I'd look at TSP's website. Their prices would be a good reference. Or contact Jason from TSP, or Matt from FSP. There's also ERL, and HKE. (There are several others, these are just off the top of my head.)

I see you're in Detroit...you have a lot of choices. I just built a 419 LS3...got the short block from Livernois (I'm originally from Windsor and was familiar with them) and built the rest. Couldnt be happier...made 521 to the wheels. I can help with valvetrain choices as I spoke with a ton of builders before deciding. I would give Livernois or Katech to discuss options on building a stroker.

Price it out both ways, then decide.

Could you tell me about how much cost was? If you wanna PM me that's fine
I'm more curious how much it was to have a machine shop hone your block. A friend of mine will assist with assembly but also curious how much that was Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

do a search for short blocks online and find prices. EBAY has strokers for varying prices. DO go to the websites also of places like livernois, Hennessey, MAST, TSP, etc etc. I ended up getting a 428 for 5 grand new block all forged 11 to 1 , then bought the new windage tray from mast. Clearance-ing a block for the increased stroke and the size of the connecting rods, balancing the crank, installing new seals , honing the cylinders .005 over are just some of the things done to a block. good forged internals can vary in price but generally 2500$ gets good stuff as far as rotating assembly with a bare block for 1200$ ish from g.m. for our block. Add to that the machine work, crating and shipping it adds up. Then also figure in the ls3 block can only be honed .020 over no boring.... its sleeves are cast in to make a "disposable block". And basically our engines are a over hone or two and that's it for the cylinders with no re-sleeving. I ended up getting mine from SAG performance group/custom engine supply Jerry on ebay after talking with him in Angola Indiana. Its price online though jumped shortly after I bought mine to like $400 more....must be busy season in the summer usually makes things a lot more pressed for performance businesses as everyone wants to hot rod in the summer...not the dead of winter..so when you buy as far as season can matter too in price. for upgrades the usual C5r timing chain, higher volume pump if a ls3, ls2 dog bone chain dampener, windage tray for stroker from MAST, you will of course want a cam with three bolt timing gear, new springs, ported heads would be nice also yet it all adds up... Gmpp ported heads can be had for $1200 on summit, or use the stock heads. Many also like to upgrade the rockers trunnions.
