Again I don't agree re the necessity of a tune. My Solo J/Pipes Axle Backs
have done the trick 100% on my L99 SS for going on 7 years now. No drone
ever.

I had PYPES Axle Back since I bought the car, recently did a Cam swap, Long Tubes, old exhaust was giving me headaches... No More... Best investment I've made, vice the Cam Swap!! Car still "sings" at WOT, and I can hear conversation inside again!!!

My Flowmaster Outlaws sound amazing, but between 1800-2400 RPM (around 75 mph @ 6th gear) is unbearable. I have a 50 mile trip to work and it can be mind numbing.

Thanks ?. Your not listening. Tune is unnecessary. as far as the exhaust is concerned .
Go Solo . No drone, great deep rumble.. what else could you want even with the L99?

Has anybody successfully done the j pipes on flowmaster american thunder mufflers. Drone is horrific between 1400-1800 rpm. I love the sound idling but thinking of selling exhaust and getting something else.

I asked my local muffler shop about building some, showed him pictures off the webs.... he looked puzzled... I bit the bullet and purchased the SOLO's... best thing I ever bought...Axle back was $538.... Sold my Pypes Cat Back to a young SS owner who likes it LOUD!!!
So... sell the American Thunder and go SOLO.... you wont regret it!!!

I hate to bring this thread back from the dead but I came across it because I was researching how to get rid of a bad drone in my ls1 gto. Funny I came across my post because at that time I didn’t know what drone was. Now I do. So I installed some j pipes on my gto exhaust and it made a huge difference in cutting the drone down. I still have a little bit between 1900-2200 but it cut it in half. The rpms before and after, the drone is completely non existent now. Before it would rattle the dash in the car. Right after 2200 it just completely disappears. My pipes are about 25” in length but I may be off on that measurement because I measured that before cutting the curve in the end so it would fit against the exhaust pipe on the car. I’m going to add 2” to it and see what happens. But yes, I’m a believer now. And the exhaust sounds much better too.
