I'll bet they limit the V6 to around 120 (a stang limiter is set to 117 if I remember correctly) and they will limit the V8 to around 150... remember a speed limiter is more than just about the tires... it is a legal / insurance thing. Could you imagine how expensive your insurance would be if you waltz in with a car with 400+ horsepower and capable of a top speed of 180+!?! Could the Camaro do it... I would be shocked if it could not, but remember they are designing and building this car for the average joe and I can guarantee you that the average joe cannot afford the insurance on a car that is capable of 200mph+.

Well then they better make the ECU easy to crack on purpose. Maybe they can put an ON/OFF switch

Sadly I doubt we will see a switch, but then again there is always Superchips... then again maybe we will get lucky and they will overlook that little portion of the PCU...

well while looking at the super cool interior of the Camaro, I found this. (this is the interior of the V6 model btw)

Speedo goes up to 100.

And (yes I know it's the concept version, but is IS a clue)

LS2 powered concept, speedo goes up to 175

How do you know that?

fwiw, those aren't nearly close to what we'll get as far as numbers. And Scott told us that so don't argue! (just kidding)

I'd like to know if the 4thgens were speed limited, and if the current Corvettes are.....just for brain-food....

As far as I know it is 187mph for the coupe, I am not sure about the Z06, and rumor has it that they will limit the ZR1 to 210mph. I do not know if the base coupe could hit 187... I would guess it would be drag limited to the mid to high 170mph range.

I would be REALLY surprised if the Camaro could get anywhere near 180 (Although it might be possible with the 550 hp version). 160 to 165, I could see. The V6 - more like 150. If it helps any, Car and Driver found that the Mustang GT was drag limited at 147 miles per hour. I can see the camaro being a TAD more aerodynamic than the mustang, but not by the sort of leaps and bounds required at those speeds. Now, drag doesn't factor into 0-60 times as much as it does at higher speeds, so I can see those being very quick.

Considering the tach redlines at 6000 rpm, and the v6 doesn't even hit its power peak till 6400 rpm, I highly doubt these are the real gauges for whatever engine happens to be under the hood of this particular pre-pro. I bet they are just off the shelf bits.

P.S. This speedo actually goes to 120, also. Not 100.

SRT Hemi's don't have speed limiters

but somewhat limited by redlining, but who don't go the extra mile so we can keep going at the risk of blowing the engine out the crate, but thats noting to rant about

I'm sure the R/T will be limited

Think about it though insurance is going to be through the roof for someone with tickets on their record if it doesn't have a limiter. hope GM makes it limited and easy to crack. either way we'll be out running the SRT's
