Core charge for a Camaro body part?
A couple of months ago, I had a small mishap at a drive through car wash, (which I rarely go to, but it was too hot to wash it myself.) Anyway, the line at the car wash backed up due to an idiot at the front of the line and the fail safe of the line automatically stopping, well...failed. Because of that, I was rear ended and sustained slight damage to my rear bumper. After getting the runaround on just whose insurance was going to cover my damage, I think they finally have it figured out. Having said all that, I'm taking it to a repair shop who is ordering me a new bumper and painting it, but when I asked to keep my bumper, they said Chevy charges a core fee of like $150. I own the car! Why would I have to pay to have my bumper back? I know some parts you pay a core charge for, but my bumper? I mean it's barely damaged, and it would be a good replacement bumper for someone who has a severely damaged bumper, but I don't think I have to pay to get my own bumper back.

That sounds pretty ridiculous to me, I have never heard that before.

Not for a bumper cover, that's insane.....I had to replace mine on my '11SS and didn't have any "core" charge.

Seriously! That's what I thought! And the guy who is replacing the bumper asked, "Can I have your bumper?" I said No! He looked at me like I was crazy. It's my frickin' bumper! So when I set up the appointment for the 29th of this month, I asked the owner of the place about it and he said, "Well, there's a core charge Chevrolet charges, so it'll be about $150." What? I wonder if I could just take it to him without the bumper? What are they gonna do, make me go get it?

I would take it to a different shop and tell them they just lost a customer.

Sell the bumper to the guy that wanted your bumper.
They will probably tack on the core charge to your bill if you bring it in without the bumper I bet. |

So I found this, and I guess GM charges a core charge to get the old part back! This says you have to put the part in your cart to see the core cost and it shows $75. I was reading that GM started this in 2013. Ridiculous. |
