SS posi rear end under a V6 ?

Has anyone put a rear end out of a wrecked SS under their V6 car. Everyone says the V6 doesn't need a posi/limited slip rear end, not enough power to worry about it. My 71 Camaro that I grew up with had a limited slip and way less h.p. than my 2010 1LT. Why would they think it wouldn't benefit from a limited slip rear end.

If you have a manual then you already have the LS differential same as the SS. If not you can add it, however, I do believe its more than just the rear end swap, not positive though.

So if I found a V6 manual it would have limited slip? Mine is an automatic and I was worried about the gear ratio between a V6 and an SS.

I have an RPM Stage 2 Diff out of a 1LE under mine. Drops in just fine.

The gear ratio will be different but in a good way, into the powerband faster and it will feel much peppier. Bad thing. you will need a tune to re-calibrate the speedo so it reads properly

Is it a "simple" swap to get a manual V6 or V8 rear end into an auto V6? I've read several threads and write-ups on this but, as usual, finding definite info proved difficult (one V8-to-V6 write-up even mentioned something along the lines of the V8 driveshaft possibly fitting - if the guy did the install, how can it possibly fit? It either fit or it didn't!! ).

What is all needed for a swap? Driveshaft, differential, axels, hubs; anything else? Hardware? Does the manual V6/V8 driveshaft connect right up?

I did a 1le swap into my A6 not too long ago. I needed new hubs, axles, differential, the back half of an ss driveshaft, axle washers, and new axle nuts. I had to take the back half of a SS driveshaft and put it onto the front of my v6 driveshaft as the rear coupling from a V6 is too small/narrow to line up to the input of the differential. The driveshafts separate easily and just slide back together. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me.

O.K. guys thanks. Sounds like more trouble than just finding a wrecked one and swapping them ;-( I have a Hypertech Max Energy programmer so I could tune it to what ever but I think I'll just stick with what I got. Too many irons in the fire already. 2015 Z71 crew cab, VTX1300c, ZRX1100 and the Camaro. Can't do it all at once.

Good luck even finding a wrecked one! I called several yards and they all told me that they have never had any 5 gen in their yard. I asked in 6 years not one. He said they all go to auction, they just don't sit in yards, you have to contact auction clearing houses. Best bet is to look in the members classified section. Or google it. I live near Detroit and there was one in Chicago, prices weren't bad and they would ship it to you or your mech..

I grew up on the Judas Priest version in High School. Little did I know the back story about Peter Green and Fleetwood Mac.
