Now this has me thinking! Wonder if I can track down my ‘67 Vert? I might have pics of it with the plate, never thought about checking with the SoS (sec of state in MI...we don’t call it the DMV here). A new project while the SS is sleeping out of the snow right now, yay!

How about a place you might have work done? Not many small independent repair shops left but the ones that ar, probably have some old records

It might be next to impossible but you never know! I would say be patient and diligent in your search but without a VIN you maybe out of luck. Good luck!

It's hard to track an old car if you don't have the VIN. Sometimes it's hard even with the VIN. For many years I've been on the lookout for one that matches my Dad's '69 Camaro that he had when I was a kid. I don't have a VIN for it and I've had no luck. I would even take one that had the same options but even that hasn't been easy to find.

I'm not trying to discourage you from trying, I just want you to be aware that this is a journey that could take years to complete. It will be worth it if you find it though so don't give up.

Well I appreciate all of your input it's definitely helpful. I hope you find your dad's Camaro that's a pretty special thing. Going to go down those routes and see what happens hopefully I find it!

I’d also believe your mom’s soundex number of her license is another suggestion for getting the VIN. Good luck!

FYI- You could factory order a 350 in the base, RS, or Type LT trims.

It wasn't a Z/28 only motor. Although, the only motor available in a Z/28 was a 350.

The 250 straight 6 was standard in all Camaros except the Z/28.
305's and 350's were options.

78 was the first year a 305 and 4 speed (wide ratio) were available (in non CA cars).

It's also practically impossible to tell a 305 from a 350 w/o REALLY knowing the motors or having the engine code/vin.

Go back to the selling dealership and see if you can get the VIN. If that doesn't work, try DMV where the car was registered in her name. After that, go back to the company that would have insured it.

Once you have a VIN, CARFAX should show you info on its current whereabouts.

My knowledge base is limited to '79 Camaros, but the 305s had a smaller original air cleaner. The 350 car has an "L" code in the VIN and the 305 has a "G" code.

Without the VIN its going to be extremely difficult, and without someone who can run the vin to find it like a cop its even more difficult

Haha. Everytime I see that pic I think to myself "I would never have let my kid stand on the car!".

One thought I had was to possibly contact the insurance company. Whoever was her insurance company before she sold it MIGHT have it on record. I don't know how far back insurance companies keep their customer's vehicle history records but it's worth a shot.

Wow, I had no idea about any of this. Thanks, great information should help me. Does an all white interior mean anything concerning trims? So they my grandpa must have optioned the 305 V8 and a 4 speed would the white interior be a option as well?
