Any corosion issues with Z28 wheels?
I have the stock Z28 wheels. I keep losing pressure, 10-15 psi in a week. Good Michelin Pilot SS tires. It has been driven in the wet a few times. 4100 miles on the 2015 Z28 car.
I had a shop tell me they saw corrosion inside the wheels. They cleaned it up, it was better for a while, now it is bad again. Going to Chevy on the 18th for service. Anyone else have this issue? |

Yes, primarily the bead seat area. Could be moisture in the air ? I had one wheel replaced already because the tire kept leaking in the bead seat area.

I remember reading a thread on here a while back telling all Z28 owners to check their valve stems.

I had a valve stem leak, it was actually too tight. I loosened it about 1/8 turn and no leak, been over a year..

My fronts were both leaking very slowly and it was this same issue. Dealership touched them up today and hopefully they are ok now. Glad I have a spare set of new rims as a back up.

Interesting... both sets of mine are fine but my car has only been in the rain twice and that wasn't on a public road.

I also had a valve stem leak from mine being too loose. It actually wobbled the hole out in the rim . I ran water on it while I moved it round to locate it.

Hmmmm... My right front has a slow leak... maybe I need to look into this more. My Chevy dealer said they couldn't find a hole in the tire.

I finally got my Z28 in for service. My fronts were leaking bad and it was getting worse. Today, after about 3 weeks of not driving the right front was flat and the left was at 10 psi.
Dealer found some corrosion on the wheels, cleaned with scotch bright, put some sealant on the rims and remounted tires. Also said the valve stems were loose. I asked the tire tech if he'd be comfortable tracking the car, doing 150mph in and he said I was good to go. I hope so. I'll see if it leaks any more. Chevy took good care of the car. I sure had a great day driving it today. I installed a SPR Racing gas pedal and that is fantastic. So nice for heel to toe. Easy to do now. Gave the car a good bath and drove a bunch of windy roads in the cold sunshine. |
