Clunk Noise when turning at low speed

I've noticed my car makes a 'clunk' sound when I make a fairly sharp turn right or left at low speed such as pulling into a driveway. It definitely seems to be coming from the rear.

It kind of sounds like it may be similar to what I read in this thread?

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...ght=rear+noise

It sounds like a 'clunk' of some sort and only does it once, almost like there is something that catches or binds? But, when I then straighten the car back out it does not 'un-clunk' either; it just does it when I make a sharp low speed turn.

When I make a more wide turn, no noise. The noise seems to be more prevalent when turning right. There is no discernible issue when going straight or backing. The car drives perfectly regardless but this weird clunk happens on most tight, right hand turns.

Any suggestions? I definitely would prefer to not have to take this to a dealer if I don't have to.

Thanks in advance.

Mine makes the same noise. Seems to be common from what I've read but curious to hear other opinions.

It's the body, it just creaking and they all do it.
there was a posting about it so you can search for it.
the dealer will fix it by hitting a certain spot with a hammer. on the underside, the dent seams to relieve the stress point. Go figure? thats what I remember regarding this. I'm sure some will answer this a bit more detail. but I just live with it. it doesn't't hurt anything.

Thanks - yep, I searched and did see that thread (and put a link to it in my first post) but wasn't sure it's the same thing. It does sound like it though?

Chevy has a TSB (PIE0054A) based on whacking the Z's with a hammer in the right spot, mine needs it too.

Mine makes noise but it's the rear clicking for sure. Never heard the oil can thing.

If you are turning right into a driveway, to avoid scraping, you get close and parrallel to the driveway, then, turn the wheel to get the front right wheel half a turn to get going up the driveway... Then, when you fully cut the wheel right, the passenger rear wheel tire will come off the ground. If you give it gas, it will make all kinds of clunks and noises... the best is to get very proficient at this, so, very little or no gas has to be added until the rear tire is back on the ground again. To get my Z/28 up and down steep driveways and high crowned roads, I wait for everyone to clear out and I use the whole driveway.

I hear it from turn of either direction nearly every time I turn into my driveway, I may yet have mine dimpled, if I do I'll take photos as the dealer whacks it so I can post them.

To revisit this issue - I did a search for that TSB but came up empty (PIE0054A).

I did find some other threads in the Gen V ZL1 section about clutch noise causing a clunk due to a diff fluid issue.

Mine is still doing it and I'm wondering if it may be more differential related than body/suspension flex.

I hate the thought of taking the car into a stealership but I may do it just to find out what is going on.

Yeah, my noise is a sharp click on flat surface turning at low speed. Mines not a body 'oil canning' issue.

Keep in mind the Z/28 does not have the same rear as the ZL1. Those have clutch type LSD and these cars have Torsten (sp?) type rears. Additive probably won't make a difference, shouldn't anyway.

Dealer will tell you it's normal if it's the same noise I have.
