7:16.04 ring time!

More proof how much more superior the new Alpha platform is... Throw our Z's shocks on the 6th gen ZL1 and boom 20 seconds over the Z/28.

This is off topic but does anyone know what kind of track timer they are using? The one on the dash

No question Gen 6 is superior chassis - but Z was in wet for last 1/3rd of its run - good for 5 seconds or so - then give the Z another 100 rwhp, like the ZL1 and you get better trap speeds on all straight and gain some back there as well.

End of the day though the new car is simply a better all around package!

Now if they could just sell a year from now at prices like the Z did a year ago!

Hi all,

Fantastic driving, and all due respect to the new ZL1 1LE.

Just a thought....I wonder what that same driver would do in one of our stock Z/28's....considering the weather conditions from the 'Ring posting for our Z????

The Z/28 lost 4 second in the last straight alone due to a 10mph speed difference. A front engine / transmission street car could only corner so fast. The gains from generation to generation are getting smaller and smaller. The next generation Corvette will be mid engine, I dare to say that the 7th gen Camaro will have a transmission in the rear, just a thought.

Wow...truly a beast and w/out the A10. Z/28 ran in the wet, but in comparing videos and looking at their speed through the final turn down the home stretch, the ZL1 was at 102 MPH and the Z/28 was at 89 MPH. Not long after entering the home stretch the ZL1 was at 134 MPH and the Z/28 at 100 MPH.

The Z/28 is still king in my heart, but no denying the ZL1 1LE is a huge leap forward. What's Ford going to answer with?

Good question. Let's pool our money and have him make a run. :-)

While I agree that our 5th gen Z/28 is much more capable than a 7:37 at the ring (I would bet it would go in the 7:2xs in good weather), I have to say that I'm very impressed with the lap time from the ZL1 1LE on STREET TIRES (and I would argue that the tire that comes on the car is junk). So, put some Cup 2s on the car and it will go 7:0x which is nuts... just nuts. It makes me want to call my local dealer and buy the one they have coming in a couple of weeks to add to my collection.

I should base the difference off the alleged 7:31 dry lap from Al O for the Z/28, so I stand corrected at 15 seconds faster... that said, 7:16 places this thing 3 seconds faster than the C6 ZR1. All that, and it has full interior with a sweet factory touch screen radio! Who knows what other options were weighing the car down! This thing is wicked!!!

The tires on the ZL1 1LE are a new Goodyear Supercar 3R R compound track tire with a 80 treadwear. Slicks would be the next step for a faster lap.

The C7 Z06 group is a bit miffed, Camaro keeps throwing down awesome Ring times.
