Man, I love these threads. You can always get people stirred up with a good v6 thread. The only thing better would be if shamp21 came on to talk about Daddy. Sadly, he is long gone.

There you go Ron. 20 more pages.
i dont think people hope for a 6 cylinder corvette, but in 20 more years,if its still around it might be a mid engine, twin turbo V6 with 700 horsepower.no way to tell at this time and my crystal ball is kinda murky.i was a teenager in the 70s,and we sure never thought a 6 cylinder camaro would be as fast as an SS 396 back then.before you laugh too hard,go back and compare a stock 396 with a stock 5th gen RS.

Oh I know. A 5 cylinder Audi RS3 already smokes our beloved Camaro SS in stock form. They run 10’s with very little work.

Personally my V6 does exactly what I want it to do. No, it is not a V8 and no amount of mods is going to get it there unless I want to sacrifice reliability/integrity of the motor. The V6 is peppy in a car that I love and I average 25 mpg. I drive a LOT. I bought my car March 8 2018 with 63,979 on the clock and as of this morning when I pulled into work I am sitting at 70,035. I have taken three trips to the town my parents live in that were 100 miles round trip. I took one trip to this side of the border of Oklahoma which was about 375 round. I take generally one trip on the weekend to the next biggest town which is 30 round. The rest of my driving is back and forth to work ~50 round every day.

I would love to have a V8 car but it would have cost not quite twice what I gave for this one. I am not in a position that some are that can have a $25-$40K toy to drive on the weekends or when the weather is nice.

Is there a way to make this thread go on forever about V6 vs V8?

Now, why do these and most GDI engines "use oil"? All modern engines use low tension piston rings, so properly seating these rings when new is critical. How is this done? Well the GM instructions for techs (that none of them read or use it seems) is when new, after making sure all fluids are full and no leaks, you take it to a back road for safety, and from a roll in second gear go wide open throttle to 5,000 RPMS and allow the engine to brake the car back down leaving it in second gear so it loads the rings in both directions. Do this 4-5 times and rings will be seated fully as good as they can get. If you break it in easy, odds are the rings will never properly seat, or abrade into the shape of the cylinder walls, and after 500 or so miles a hard glaze forms over the cross hatch hone pattern and the window has passed and you will most likely have oil consumption issues the life of the engine. Then, ALWAYS get that first oil fill and filter out, and ONLY run a full synthetic oil in the 10w40 range. We prefer Amsoil 5w50.
Do you happen to have a copy of these instructions from GM, I can't seem to locate anywhere in Service Information as to these instructions to wear the engine in.

Yeah, it's pretty easy. Just gotta start reminding people of how awesome having those extra 2 cylinders is, and how superior the LS is to virtually everything else. That usually brings em out of the woodwork.

The OP opened the door for this discussion when referring his car as a Sports Car Instead Of a sporty looking car.
I wish him good luck though. And by the way— Corvettes Were Made with 6 cylinders for 3 years !,,

Yes, because 1953-1955 is so very relevant to today.

Hard to pick the V-8 in 1953 when they didn’t make one.

Yeah, you'd have to go back to 1918 to find a Chevy V8 before 1955

I don't drop by often because I stay busy with motorcycles, but this thread was fun to read today.

I am surprised nobody has mentioned the handling benefits of V6 vs V8. The weight distribution of the V6 seems more favorable in the twisties.

Non-the-less, the wife and I drive an SS because we like the impressive power of the V8.
