Exclamation THe reason why most people dislike the new Challenger

Ok I know most people have not realized this yet, but besides the large size,
and the gas guzzling of the Challenger I think this is one of the main reasons why most people don't like the Challenger, those side skirts and rear skirts on the car make it look plain looking most people can't point it out but they know that there is just something about the Challenger that they hate.
Look at the car compared to the concept.

I do like the Challenger, and yeah those side skirts could be painted but I don't know. There's something else about it that doesn't grab my attention

Oh wait I know..not enough lines. The Camaro has nicer lines on the side. I mean look at the length of the car door from top to bottom. The car is badass but doesn't have the eye-catching lines.

To me, the skirts and front spoiler that was added too the Challenger makes it look better than the concept... just my 2 cents.

Yea those skirts will probably be replaced or painted when I get mine. I was debating going camaro if it was as light as people claimed. But now that I know it is as much as a pig as the challenger, I ordered a 09 challenger because IMO it looks better than the camaro. The camaro looks great but they gave it more lines because it lacks in size. I am talking about muscle car look, it lacks in size. I saw the concept a year ago at an auto show and the camaro turned me off the minute I saw it's size. I know most of you will say well it makes it lighter, but to me big car +big engine=muscle. The camaro is going to be a great car and will beat me car stock and will gain more hp per mod due to lack of aftermarket for the hemi. But I just love the retro look of the challenger and If the tailights of the camamro weren't so fugly (they tried too hard to make it look like the vette) than I would certainly be getting a camaro.:seesaw:

It makes it look like just another flat sided car. That was one of the best assets of cars back in the 70's, the sides of them were very curved and they'd slope inwards towards the rockers a lot more than cars these days.

there is a family resemblence but the rear of the Camaro no more resembles the Corvette's any more than a Cobalt coupe does.

The challenger rear lacks any imagination, one long tail light in a big oval.. woopie...

not really, the rear end of the camaro looks like a square version of the vette. It shows in the pics. I hate that they didnt go for the long lights on each side like the old camaro I think the 71? not sure. Anyhow I think gm and chrysler were pretty much even on the design effort for these cars.

70-73 CAMARO had round taillights, then they went to the wrap arounds for the rest of the gen 2 and then all of the gen 3

even if you think the new camaro looks like a corvette in the rear, is that a bad thing? the 70-73 had the same shape tail lights as the 68-82 Vettes...
in fact they advertized the 70 Camaro as "Closest thing to a Vette Yet"

. That and the gas-guzzler-ness really put me off.

I must be in the minority then because I think the new Challenger is nice. It’s a clean design and stayed true to the concept. I’ll agree it’s big, but then the original never was small. 197.7 for the Challenger, 190 for the Camaro, and 187 for the Mustang, and none of them are exactly lightweight. And you can finance & drive one everyday. Fuel mileage is important but I don't think we can have our cake and eat it too at this point .
They all have their pros and cons. I’d still rather drive one than the electric I-Pods we’re all going to be forced to drive in the future .
