Did you have an L99 on both?

No, bother were M6 cars, both 100% stock prior to puttin on JBA catless midpipes and a SCT tune to turn off the rear O2's. The 2010 was much louder and "crackled" on decel much more than the 2013 with the exact same midpipes. Thinking there must be a difference in the rest of the exhaust on an M6 SS car between 2010 and 2013 to quiet them down... or a SCTx4 tuner tunes out decel pop whereas the SCTx3 i used on the 2010 did not. Was curious if anyone knew why the '10 would be louder.

resonator delete
[QUOTE=Shaun SS;4259543]I've got Magnaflow Catback Exhaust, but I want louder.. Is resonator delete a route to go?
One place quoted me 150 the other says 750 lol. Will I have a check engine light come on?[/QUO When I had a X-pipe installed,it deleted my resonators and with the Borla Ataks it's loud at WOT,sounds great @ an idle too! |

Very true. From all the research I have read, H pipe will scavenge at lower RPM's better than a X pipe. So if you want stop light to stop light power, than an H pipe is for you. X pipe works better than an H pipe at mid to high RPM's. So if you are tracking or want to just blow someone's doors off on the highway, than an X pipe is for you. Then there is the sound tone of both depending on the rest of the exhaust ( straight piped or performance ) which may also way in on your decision if you just want a different sound. There is also where the crossover pipe is placed as it will play a key roll in timing of the pulses. I've seen some x pipes welded up near the mufflers, this is a mistake. It needs to be closer to the headers for proper scavenging. The H pipe built into my stock 2SS resonator was closer to the front than the back of the car.

Going to change my Avalanche (with an LS motor) to true dual. Already has Dynatech LT headers and split exhaust at the axel. Going to remove the Magnaflow and replaced it with the resonator from my 2SS. It has an H-pipe built in it and is just the ticket for a little more low end torque. Been out so long I can't remember if the smaller section (where it goes low for the cross member) faced forward or aft? Also considering hollowing out the stock mufflers and use those as well or perhaps use some ss tailpipe resonators.

I saw a comparison of H-pipe and X-pipe performance.
In 3 measurements, the average was less than 2 HP in favor of the X-pipe. So in my opinion it's too much of a fuss for nothing. It's basically just a sound. Personally, H-pipe sounds much better to me than X-pipe, so I stay with it. I have an X-pipe on my 1978 and an H-pipe on the 2010 SS so I can compare.

put an H on mine for the resonator delete. sounded much better. I too am a fan of H over X.

The H pipe design works from idle to 2,000 rpms. The X pipe assists at 2,000 rpm's and works up from there. That is what I meant by a little added low end.

Yeah ... if you buy an exhaust system that includes an X-pipe, it's something else. But as I wrote ... It's a matter of taste again. The sound of X-pipe seems exiotic to me. It reminds me of Italian cars. The H-pipe reminds me of old school muscle cars. And I've always liked that in your (USA) cars. I have the idea in my head to buy a Stainless Works retro chambered catback and instead of an X-pipe to remake it into an H-pipe. What would it sound like. Muscle cas must sound like sprinkle 1” screws on a metal plate!!! https://youtu.be/UaAWMOJ52Js?t=234

I have an exaust rattle, especially when put to reverse in the mornings on cold engine. Also something rattles when I take my foot off the gas pedal on a descent.
Can I damage (burn out) the muffler if I delete the resonator? My car is cats-off and tuned to remove CEL, L99 auto trans. AFM disabled with Range |
