And the quality of the Mercedes started to dip at the same time.

Currently, there is a small (3-4'' long) pipe that goes from under the throttle body (right after the throttle body) which is an inlet from the crank case, to the intake manifold right after the throttle (right above the inlet. This is the dirty side blow by, which makes sense since you are literally venting from where all the action is taking place RIGHT into the manifold. Hence, also why the catch can install is using this inlet and outlet.

The clean side is venting from the valve cover into the intake itself, prior to hitting the throttle body. This 1LE PCV kit is only going to change the vent cover routing, not the one after the throttle that is right from the crank case to the intake.

Hence, I see why above it was mentioned that doing both would help the most. Now I am curious why GM only decided on doing the valve cover change? It would almost indicate that this is the source for most of the blow by and by reducing it there you make the most impact.
Maybe the dirty side is too risky in terms of EPA issues for GM to allow for customer use. They are probably assuming that the clean side will be left installed.

I'm not an expert but...

The more I look at it, this kit really looks like a breather (using the stock air filter) with an air/oil separator and catch can (or reservoir) below it to minimize the chance that any oil would go back through the intake air tube and thus flow into the throttle body. I'd like to know if after hard driving it has any captured oil in it or does it let the oil drain back into the engine when the back pressure subsides.

It sounds like you'd still need/want a traditional dirty side catch can even with this installed.

I'd also guess this design does not have a one way valve (air in only). Because of that, you'd have no chance of making it a street legal component because of emission restrictions.

Question:
For those of you that have installed the oil separator, What do we do with the oem connector? (from the airbox to the head cylinder)
I guess to need to remove it and use the cap as in Figure B?
Correct me please if I'm wrong.

If you plan on keeping your car for a long time then they are worth it.

We picked up our car Friday night, and the separator was installed. I am going to leave it on.

Was wondering what that white box was in the trunk with that part inside and the Oil Separator instructions sheets. Procrastinated until tonight to research it, came across this thread.

Thank you!

..So who here has done BOTH dirty side and clean side?

I have 700km on the odometer, I need to make a decision ASAP now that the engine is still fresh, what should I do?

You've got time to research and make a good decision...don't rush for that reason - I promise the engine won't blow up.

Can having this part installed make the engine idle "rough"? The dealer installed it on my car already and my engine idle bucks and jumps around like the car has a severe duty cam in it.

If installed properly this has NO effect on fuel trims or idle.

Excellent for the clean side.
