Proper measurement for Tick's shim kit on ZL1 slave cylinder

I ordered the GM Slave Cylinder & Throwout / Release Bearing for 2012-2015 Camaro ZL1 with billet release support and the shim kit, I already have the speed bleed line.

I'm not following the proper way to measure the clearance for the shims by the provided instructions from Tick. Anyone have a simpler way to measure this or can provide a better explanation of it?

There's not a particularly easy way to do it on our cars because the bell housing is built into the transmission housing. You basically have to stack measurements to do the calculation. You'll need a straight edge and accurate measuring tool such as a slide caliper.

On the engine side, you need to measure from the surface where the trans mounts to the straight edge across the back side of the clutch and write it down. Then measure back in from the straight edge to the pressure plate release fingers and subtract that from the first measurement. This gives you the distance that the fingers are from the surface where the engine and trans mate.

On the trans side, you need to measure the distance from the straight edge across the engine mating surface to the throw out bearing when it's fully compressed.

If you subtract the engine side measurement from the trans side measurement, you end up with the clearance gap. Then you can add shims as needed.

Hope that makes sense.
