Burnouts in my Camaro (Video)

I am getting new tires, the old Pirellis wont pass inspection, but there is enough meat on them for some Burnouts. I have never attempted a burnout before, after my first few bad attempts, my brother said, "Get out and let me try." This is his attempt. Its nice having a closed off road to practice on.

Yeah its so much fun. Before this car I was always worrying I would break my cars doing stuff like this, but I feel pretty confident this car can handle a little abuse here are there.

How could you even burnout with it on? Doesn't it cut power?

Depends on the year you have. On my 2011 you could run your RPMs all the way up without turning off T/C. On my 2013 this feature is blocked, so no matter how much you press on gas, RPMs do not go over around 2000, unless you hold traction button for about 7-8 sec to turn off both traction and stability.

I haven't tried "power braking" my car, but with the TC and Stability off and the auto in M and stomping on the gas I get zero wheel spin.

Everybody has an opinion. In mine, burnouts are always fun! You picked a good safe-ish spot to try it out, you knew the tires were finished anyways, it's a good learning experience and a video you'll re-watch for years to come.

This was at least 6-7 years ago - still fun to go back and re-watch.

It's been right around 50 years since the last time I did a burnout. With more smoke generated than in either of the above videos out of a full size intermediate sedan (automatic) with only a 230 HP (gross, at the crank) 2-barrel engine . . . there just hasn't been anything left to prove here, nowhere to go but down. All technique.

These days, I'd rather scrub the tread off my car's tires going 'round corners on a road course. 20 minutes of fun at a time > 20 seconds.

Better? That's my full size automatic sedan. I mean - it doesn't take much skill, especially with an automatic, does it? Could hold the car till the tires gave out - but I thought it was more fun to extend those strips a good 500'+ down the road.

I'm with you though - auto-x and road coursing is certainly more enjoyable.

The best burnout I ever did that wasn't on a dragstrip was in a 2500 chevy in my buddy's driveway. I had to pay to fix his pavement and buy one wheel. That was some expensive senseless fun. Haven't done one since.
