My ZL1 wheels were fixed because of the poor powder coat. That is way too steep! no more than $100-$150 per wheel for even the best of the best in a major market. And that includes fixing dings/scrapes!

So, sounds to me like powder coating is the way to go as long as they use the low-temp stuff.

To give you an idea of how few places there are around here, the $300 place is booked solid until May. Mid May is the earliest date they can give me. Wheel repair I can have done immediately, but powder-coating has to wait until May.

Nothing specific, just passing on what happened to one of my pals. That oven temp for the powder coating was enough to weaken/break the hub from the rim on a couple of stock C5 Z06 rims (when tracking the car).

I paid 350 a set to have my factory SS wheels powder coated. The price included dismounting, media blasting, mounting new tires and balancing them

Hey Billy I have been looking for a place to Powder coat 1LE wheels and found a reputable wheel only place in Plainview that quoted $150 per which includes any repairs and mount / balance. I have not had job done yet so can not answer any questions about results.
All you guys saying it should cost $75 obviously aren't in the NY area and don't deal with the high cost of living we have to deal with. |

yeah my wheels look like crap, no curb rash but the paint looks almost bubbled in some of the tight spaces and the black is starting to fade. if you all are saying powder coating is a no no, what is a good paint solution?

Billy, If you're willing to travel to Connecticut/MA line, a place called Play Nice Customs (on Facebook) powdercoated mine for $100 per wheel and that included repair of road rash on two of my wheels. They are located near Congamond lakes near Southwick, MA. They did a fantastic job by the way, looks better than stock.

I recently did a set from my 2014 1LE a few months ago in gloss black low curing temperature powder coat. He charged $125.00 per wheel tax included and that also covered any curb damage etc. He goes through a full process of checking for true and any run out etc... whether it is damaged or not it goes through the entire process.

i had a scratch on my wheel that was painted black when repaired. so a year later when I was swapping tires, all this paint just came off. i did powder coating to that wheel at Crimson Wheel Repair in Edison, NJ. i paid $165 for one wheel. I don't care about possible effect on aluminum, since I have a separate set of 1LE wheels for track, and I don't think I will be power coating those

If the aging process only needs 350 degrees F, then aren't we in danger already, since brake pads can get to a 1000 degrees F, and I'm sure they would transfer a few hundred degrees F to the wheels? I'm a bit confused about all this to be honest.
