Come to think of it why wouldn't we just compare them the same way the gen5 was compared to the mustang when it came out? It was the same situation in a way. Mustang was already out and the camaro missed the previous summer and winter. Granted the gen5 came out in spring 09 as a 2010 so it had more months to have sales as a 2010. Why not just start from January? Either way the new Camaro is losing to the Gen5 and to the Mustang. I believe there hasn't enough time for the full picture to play out though.

Well that will always be a bit tricky since there will be some MY overlaps..I think the 2017 Mustang is due to hit the lots in June/July.

First Off the sales for the Camaro are very good. The Camaro is not going to out sell the Mustang so as they say in the Mob movies Forget about it. To figure this out all one has to do it look at the 5th gen car sales. The Camaro took a 7 year break from the showroom floor and it's best months for sales when it returned from 2009-2015 are as follows.

10,852
10,340
9,961
above are the Camaro's best numbers from 09-15

Now the Mustang never took a seven year break and when the 2015 the new Mustang has already posted these numbers in only one year.

13,616
13,144
12,663
11,719
10,096

The Mustang did this in one year. So common sense tells us that the Camaro is not going to beat the Mustang because it could not produce the Mustangs numbers with a seven year layoff. Lets just hope GM can sale enough examples to keep it in production and produce some limited edition models.

I don't think the Camaro is going to have to worry about going out of production again until the monthly sales drop really, really low...

Like 3,500 or less a month, low.

Sale enough? Do you mean sell enough?

I really like the '16 Camaro but when I bought my 2013 Camaro 2LT I was able to get it for like $27,500 ..... I wanted to buy a 2016 Camaro 1SS but can't push the $40,000 price range and forget the 2SS which most I see listed for are pushing $45,000+, some I've seen hitting $50,000+ ...... Plus I really enjoy my '13 Camaro ...

Just because the 2013 isn't the newest, latest and greatest thing doesn't mean it's not a fantastic car.

I think people have a bit of a holiday romance thing going on with the Gen 6 and forgetting just how good the Gen 5 was and is.

It's an apples to oranges comparison right now.

Ford ran a TV ad campaign and had a cheaper 4-banger available for all the girls and moms who don't care.

Chevy's done neither and I suspect they won't make a push until April-May.

I dont see any cause for alarm here. The base volume model isnt even available yet, no convertible and its still selling close to 5th gen numbers. Id call that a win. The Mustang currently has a full line up and a pair of performance models, why would it not outsell the Camaro?

I dont think money is an object here(dont jump me, its just an opinion) . I was at a dealer in West Palm beach, FL when I was on vacation last week and they had a mix of left over 15's with 3 new 2016's. The loaded 15 NON-RS SS they had was 42,xxx and they had a 2016 2SS for $45K. At that price, who is sweating $3000. The loaded 15 2LT/RS car was pretty much the same scenario, the 1 16 2LT/RS was $39,xxx and the 15 2LT/RS was $37,xxx. They had a $28,xxx 16 1LT non RS car and that was a better value than a comparable 5th gen. Unless your loading these cars up with LPO items, I dont see how price can be scaring anyone because its not thaaaaaat much more than the 15's window sticker to window sticker.

Back home, my local dealers always had a nice assortment of 5th gens. Ive seen a grand total of 5 so far on the lot here and only 1 of those was an SS. Perhaps thats happening in other regions as well.

In short, the deck is stacked against the 6th gen now and its still doing OK.

Not knocking the 5th gen by saying this, but there is no holiday romance. Chevy just flat out stepped it up big time on the gen 6.

As I observed last year the local ford dealers in my area are stocking mustangs left and right for graduation. In July they will all be sold out. This does not happen in the Chevy dealers, and some of these dealers are next to each other. In the 4 Chevy dealers in my area there are 14 2016 Camaros, In the month of Feb 2 were sold. My wife pointed out to me there is a Big volume Chevy dealer not to far from us. In the front line he has 10 Camaros 3 16's and 7 2015. Her statement was if you drive by you can barely tell which is which.

For whatever reasons, gotta give Mustang credit and congratulations. I thought Camaro would post a much higher number this month....Mustang is hammering Camaro and Challenger...

That trend line has got to turn around for Camaro. Barely staying ahead of Dodge with a new platform and a new gen Camaro has got to be a disappointment and a big concern for GM...

Yes, the I-4, convertible will add to the numbers, but the V-8 and highly optioned models will taper off at the same time...Camaro enthusiasts are buying up the most V-8s and fully loaded cars right now, and those buyers will taper off....

Mustang is doing something right. It's impressive and Camaro is losing out.

It is something to see the Challenger nipping at the taillights of the Camaro. I never thought I would see that.
