Hello from Canada
Hey guys, I've been visiting the forums frequently since purchasing my Camaro back in July 2016 and thought it was about time to join the site, introduce myself and talk about how I got into the seat of a Camaro. Wall of text below, read at own risk
I drove a 2003 Mazda Protege that was handed down from my parents for 3 years when I moved 250km away for a job. Decent car for getting you from A to B but the brakes were pretty terrible, the timing belt squealed every time you started the car and it was rusting. My parents would comment every time I came back to visit about how I should get something new. I knew nothing about cars. I never would have thought I would buy a sports car, I just figured I would buy a good old reliable Japanese car, used, and drive it to the ground, rinse and repeat forever. Somehow the act of looking at new cars makes that all go away because I got away from that idea very quickly. I started browsing the usual boring cars trying to see what I'd like and somehow got it in my head I wanted something sporty and cool looking. I won't be this young forever so I might as well get something I can enjoy while I can right? I started looking at the BRZ/FR-S/86 mix as they were a nice entry level sporty car. Decided that if I wanted something that looks nice then it also has to perform well so I left behind the BRZ and started looking at good old American. Browsed Mustangs and Challengers and decided I hated the look of the Challenger. I'm young, I need something with curves. So I started looking at and building Mustangs online. I liked them better then the Challenger but I see Mustangs everywhere and it didn't speak to me. I then decided to look at Chevys lineup and completely forgot they had the Camaro. I absolutely loved the look of the 6th gen Camaro. It looked meaner, more aggressive, I liked the interior better, it had more options to choose from. This was it, I knew then out of everything I had looked at that this was the car I wanted to actually try. After all why would you want to buy a car you don't like the look of? So after building and pricing and looking at trims for almost a month I booked a test drive at my local dealer. I could see the car outside in the corner of the lot as I was talking to sales and letting them copy my info and I was getting excited, it looked even better in person. This one was an 8 speed, 2LT, V6, NPP, loaded to the teeth and I loved it. Coming from a 130hp car to a 335hp car it was amazing. I didn't get this one as it had more options then I liked even though the dealer discounted it by 10% and I still had another 5% of incentives in my back pocket. I ended up doing a trade as the car I wanted was at another dealer however they could not get the car to me within the stated time so I got my deposit back. Getting the deposit back wasn't easy as the new sales manager knew this was my first time purchasing a vehicle and was making up reasons why I could not get my deposit back and that I had to give him more time to get the vehicle(I had already waited almost 3 weeks). I drove 15minutes to the next town over which did have my car, with about $1000 more in options but at this point I didn't care and to be honest, I loved the added features this car had (Black hash marks, black wheels, illuminated bowtie) and it made it look even better. I had an appointment with sales for the car but he was tied up when I walked in so the manager just tossed me the keys, said there's the car come back whenever and he should be available. I Bought the car the day before I was flying out to Vegas with friends, drove it to my parents since the airport is near them and told them to come out and see the new car. The look on their faces was great, they absolutely did not expect me to buy a sports car. This car has made want to own a sports car for the rest of my life if I am able. I'm already dreaming of the day I move up to a C8(as long as it looks as good as the C7). It is a Hyper Blue 2LT with the RS and Convenience & Lighting package, Dual mode exhaust, V6, A8, Black hash marks, Illuminated Bowtie, Navigation. I'm happy to be part of the Camaro family and I hope this forum continues to be a great resource. Thanks for reading guys. |

I read your story and it's somewhat similar to mine. I upgraded from a 2014 Honda Civic to a Camaro 2.0L Turbo and the difference is incredible. Never saw myself buying an American car either, but here I am with a Camaro!
Also, love the look of your car. I bet your V6 sounds amazing with the dual-mode exhaust. Welcome to the forums! Hope to see you around. |

CONGRATS on the ride, and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5/6. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, wives', husbands, girlfriends and boyfriends here don't care....and take it easy.
oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here. Welcome!!
