DOES CEL NEED TO BE TUNED OUT IN NON-EMISSIONS TESTING COUNTIES?

In my county(in Texas), they dont test emissions, and i specifically called the inspector. He stated that meant that they do not do computer diagnostic inspection since its a non emission county. I even asked about headers and he stated that if everything was sealed tightly and cats were installed, that he'd pass it. So does this mean that if i bought LT headers and didnt get a tune right away...ya ya i know I need to and will eventually, but if i caused a CEL, would I need to get a tune or would I still be able to pass inspection?

Dude, my friends car has every light on his cluster lit up. As long as you got all your necessary items working properly you shouldn't have a problem. Well, in Bexar county that is.

I think he's asking if there are any other reasons outside of inspection that you would want to avoid the CEL.
I can't think of any -- maybe the dealer would give you a look/possible refuse warranty work if they see the light on when you take it in for maintenance?

Does the CEL cause the car to go into a "safe mode" or anything like that?

Only thing I can think of, is a CEL will not allow use of remote start on autos with the equipped feature.
