It hurts so bad!!

At the track tonight and missed the shift from 3 to 4 and hit 2nd at 6k rpm from 3. Now have check engine light service stabilitrack and reduced engine power not letting me go over 2k rpm. Any guesses on what I broke? Dropping it off at mechanics now but won't have any idea what's wrong until Monday or Tuesday.

You didn’t break anything. The engine just read on overrev and shut down to prevent any damage. Hook up The little computer and check your code, should be a 507 or 0507. Reset it and don’t be a dummy next time.

This ^^^, you just overrevved and, fortunately, the computers in vehicles today are smart enough to shut everything down as to prevent or minimize any damage.

Alright, my sctx4 should be able to read the code and reset right? It was sounding funny and idling rough, is that normal for this issue?

the ole money shift...could be multiple items...per above check and clear codes...still rough?...pop the valve covers and go from there....if that happens hopefully a bent p/r is the worst...good luck and report back!

peace

As far as running and the unusual sounds you are hearing, they could simply be a result of it running at reduced power. Check out the codes you've captured to see what they say. Not familiar with the SCTX4, but if you can clear the codes, do so and see how it runs. If it still runs or sounds different, take it in and have it checked out.

Started the car again sounded like it might be starting to knock :/. Really hoping I didn't do more than $2000 in damage.

One practice is to turn your hand over when in second, so your palm is on the left side of the handle. Then you might find it easier to shift to the right into third and less likely to push to the left when pulling toward fourth.

Yes, you could have over-revved going back down to second. All the nannies in the world won't stop that from happening.

If you really were at 6,000 RPMs in third going to second would have spun it up to ~8800RPM which could be some serious damage.

The next question has to be, why did you find the need to upshift from 3rd?
A stock SS will hit 113MPH in 3rd, test results reported by Chevrolet as well as many magazines claim 13.0@111.

Well, we all make mistakes, and you and I are no exceptions.
Hopefully it's no more than the valvetrain.

300 is a misfire, 0068 is a map something, and the 0106 said something about barometric pressure.

If you're still hearing a hard/loud knock after clearing the codes, my advice is to not start it again and have it towed to a good shop. May be nothing, but if it is, further running could result in additional damage. IMO, better safe then sorry. Good luck and I hope it turns out to be nothing or at least something relatively minor.

The computer can't save you from a money shift... When the engine is mechanically forced beyond the rev limiter nothing can stop that besides pushing the clutch in. I bent a valve on my 3rd 240SX while embarassing a turbo civic years ago... I went 2nd instead of 4th and went beyond 10,000 rpm.

True, but hopefully it helped minimize the damage, and if he got it the revs up that high, there most likely some, hopefully nothing too serious.

As far as shifting from 3rd to 4th, it's been common practice for me. I don't like to let it be in such high Tom's unless I'm racing in which case I'm shifting into 4th around 105 or so and I'm pulling across the line or just about 50ft shy of it. Obviously my attempt to save any harm from the engine backfired this time around as I shifted to 2nd instead of 4th. First season at the track and only the 3rd or 4th time to the track. Kind of learning as I go. Make my mistakes and learn from them as I do with all things in life. You can't really learn without making your own mistakes. Just hoping this one wasn't a really expensive one.
