Thumbs down 2014 Camaro Smaller???...

Car and Driver reports the 2014 Camaro's will be built on GM's Alpha Platform.

How much smaller is the Alpha?

Can we expect something like this...

lol.. I thought going smaller would be a better thing.. meaning less weight. As long as it looks sexy still i'm game for it.

I really love the size, i think it gives it more aggressive stance, and more intimidation. regardless of what they do, im glad to say il still have my 2010 = / but may stop me from getting another one.

Alpha will be flexible enough for Cadillac's 3-series competitor (ATS) and the next-gen CTS (which is supposed to grow in size to match the 5-series and E-class. Therefore the 6th gen could fit anywhere between those constraints.

Interior dimensions won't shrink. It will be like my Mustang, they just will have it setup different. The only thing on the 2014 Camaro that will shrink is the 1/4 mile time and the weight.

I think it was motor trend where I read that the Camaro will remain a large coupe. It didn't specify what "large coupe" meant, but it has to be big enough to hold a V8.

I just hope the keep the pushrod V8. Leave it at 6.2L, give it direct injection, Z06/ZR1 style exh manifolds, ditch that stupid AFM on the auto trans, and call it good. In a couple hundred lb lighter car, it would be incredible.

If they go small displacement, overhead cam crap like Ford, it will not be in my garage.

The Gen Vs will supposedly retain the 5.3L and 6.2L displacements from the Gen IVs, just with better tech like direct injection.

read in an article talking about the ATS and the Alpha platform that the platform is designed for the smaller competitor for the BMW 3 series but is flexable enough to support a larger set up such as the Camaro. basically it will still use the V8(and 6) and allow for sizable weight reduction. worry not, this thing is going to be a beast that will handle and out run any thing domestic under 40K and most otherwise. can't wait. just hope they keep it styled like it currently is.

True! but a v8 can fit in a Datsun 240z

smaller, lighter, I'm all for it. weight is easily the largest problem for the Camaro, imo.

Fantastic news, the current car is an absolute pig. Smaller cars are lighter, more nimble, require less power to go fast, and are easier on consumables (ie brake, tires, clutches). How anyone could think this is a bad thing is beyond me.
