I was thinking the "Tag" was just so you could be subscribed, so I did it to be sorta funny! But your mod is cool and looks like it works great!

OK all,

I WANT to do this. I had a basic electricity class in high school and am a mechanical designer by trade. I even had to draw up a printed circuit board in tech college. I'm not a complete dolt from the mechanical end but am admittedly so with the sparky components.

First, please post an update with the transistor attempt at this ASAP, as I'd prefer it. Please include a list of part numbers from Radio Shack or an online vendor, if possible. If I have to get into the actually selection of these components, I'm buried. If all I have to do is take said components and look at the pics/diagram and replicate them, I'm golden.

Thanks!

I picked up everything to do this over the weekend. It wasn't until I got home that I noticed a socket was recommended for the timer. Guess I will go back and get some this week. I also need a third hand tool to hold this thing so I can work with it. Maybe they have those too.

Any update on the MOSFET instead of relay. I would like to do this mod but prefer the MOSFET as it would be even cheaper and smaller form factor. Thanks

Checked with whitedemon, and, I'm wondering if there is interest in kits for these. I'm thinking just the parts and a board for people to build up on their own.

ok everyone i am updating you. I hardly drive my car so this weekend i took it out and got to use the lights alot. Come to find out the relay coils are drawing to much current when the brakes are applied, like at a red light, and the current over heated the 555 timer and popped it. The left side popped and lost the delay, right side actually chipped off from the heat. So a mosfet WILL need to be used instead of the relay. I will be building a 2.0 version of the delay circuit with the mosfet either tonight or tomorrow and I will post pics for you. Sorry for this, I didnt realize how much current a relay coil drew. The mosfet will work and be reliable.

I'd be interested if it doesn't raise the price too much - also, just really would like a "tested" parts list - still waiting (unless I've missed it) a working version without the relays . . .

Cool - thanks for being the tester!!! Looking forward to seeing the results . . .

Personally I would just built my own once the parts are posted. However if it was only 10 more on top of cost of parts, that is tempting to buy a kit already to go.
