Do I need a hoist to install shorty headers?

My son has access to a hoist but he won't be back at work for 2-3 weeks. Can the installation be done without crawling under the car?

TIA.

BTW, I have high flow cats just in case that makes a difference.

Also, where do I pick up new gaskets that go between the headers and the cats?

I was able to install shorty headers (DT's) from the top. I did have to crawl under the car to place jacks under the cats to keep them held up. They will drop about 4-5 inches due to the weight. I used the original gaskets since I only had around 800 miles on the car. Not sure if the cats make a difference the flange is still in the same place.

I do not think you can install headers without at least racking up the car. You will need to get under the car. Do you have any ramps. Those might do the trick.

Floor jack and stands or ramps! The driver side can be done from the top but passenger side is easier from underneath. You may also need to loosen the clamps that secure the cats to the exhaust if the header flange won't seat properly to the cat. It's a fairly easy project but one way or another you'll need to get under it! A helper is a must also, it will make the project a lot easier and faster! Good luck!

Good advise everyone. I'm thinking all of use installed our own. I didn't use ramps because I would then have to stand on something to remove and install them. I'm a klutz so I just jacked the car up enough to support the cats so they wouldn't drop then I dropped the car. As mentioned the driver side from the top. The instructions said to install the passenger from the bottom. I swear I didn't! The studs on the cats are removable so you don't have to mess around with trying to stab the headers and bolt them on to the cats at the same time. I did have to move some things around to get the passenger in from the top but it saved me from having to work with an elevated car in my garage. I did the install by myself and all went well as things go.... grab the advise from all and sort out the details. And! I did "DT" shorties......might be different with other headers,,,Good Luck!

i didnt read all the posts... but use your stock gaskets everyone on here tells me they are the best!!

the bulk of the time putting headers on is not being under the car.. its putting the bolts on and such... headers on these cars are amazingly easy...
