New SS Flash

There is a new ECM flash for the Camaro that fixes the HVAC problem. The thing is, this new flash is an entirely new operating system so it will affect tuned vehicles. Anyone who has tuned their vehicle will need the tuner to apply the appropriate changes. You could have your ECM flashed and then have your tuner fix it. Or you can just ask the dealer to input in the system they flashed your car. Whatever the case, all tuners will have to update due to the new operating system.

It is an entirely new operating system. Its like going from xp to vista. It will reset any tune to stock. The HVAC problem consisted of multiple systems freezing up. Crazy how the ECM controls the air conditioning too.

It wont do anything to tunes, Ia lready took my car in and I have a tune car is running the same way no lights or anything.

I asked the service tech, if they were going to ahve to flash the ECM and he said no, they dont need to do anything to the ECM it seems. They can access this update and update it from somewhre else he explained but I dont remember what he did.

before you start a pandemic, what is this flash supposed to correct besides freezing up? I mean we are not talking about a Windows Vista machine here. How would you notice (besides your car shutting off) that your car freezing? Can we get a little more detail. Do they send out a flash to reprogram the old issue of slow L99's? IS it for LS3's or L99's or just one of the two. Again elaborate.

I'm not exactly sure what its for, but it fixes something wiht the stereo and the air conditioning.

My stereo did stop freezing and stop not reading my USB all randomly like it used to.

Interesting. The dealer assured me it would re-flash the ECM. I'll ask my tuner if the operating system update will wipe a custom tune completely.

I really don't think that it would wipe out your tune, but if it were me and I was tuned, i would flash back to stock then take my car are in. When I get it home, flash my custom tune back in.

That is the correct thing to, however your tuner must update their software with the new GM flash.

From the horses mouth. The latest update from GM is a new operating system for the 2010 SS. It is an ECM flash that WILL wipe out any custom tuning done. You can re-flash your custom tune when you leave, however your custom tune may not communicate exactly with the new operating system. Specifically, if a table was moved your custom tune would not see it. Anyone that has a tune will have to communicate with their tuner and have them update their car. This always happens on new cars for the first year or two.

We'll it didnt do anything to my tune, I would already be throwing codes by now with my off road set up. And the tech assured me they didnt have to touch the ECM.

My dealer is pretty mod friendly, I took my car in they know I have a tune they know the mods I have and they didnt void my warranty. So I told Bernie (my tech) that if they reflashed the ECM to let me know to bring my laptop and reload my tune in there and he said there was no need.

This was last week.

Mike from Diablo had the following to say about the Camaro SS ECM Flash:

"I would avoid the flash until we have added support for it."
